Play and Create Without Compromise: Elgato Launches Next-Generation HD60 X Capture Card

Other media says it has VRR passthrough. I don't think there's an existing video format that they could use for recording VRR gameplay, not sure if that's a problem really.

Ghostwire Tokyo: DLSS vs. TSR vs. FSR Comparison

It's too bad all of the actually effective upscalers need deep hooks into the game engine. I'm glad FSR is there for older games but it's clear FSR is only the best when it's the only choice. FSR2 will likely be in the same group as TSR and DLSS, with DLSS being top because the algorithm simply...

Scythe Releases Mugen 5 Rev C Tower-type CPU Cooler

Well I replaced that fan immediately with an NF-A12x25 so no biggie there.

Scythe Releases Mugen 5 Rev C Tower-type CPU Cooler

Did anything change but the LGA 1700 mounting hardware? I literally just bought a Rev B because it's the biggest cooler that fits an NR200 with the TG side panel. Happy with it anyway but if there's a performance improvement I'll be frustrated at my timing.

Seasonic Focus SPX Series 750 W SFX PSU

May I say that we all applaud your commitment to killing PSUs in the name of validating their protection measures. Very informative review. I am surprised that a high end brand like Seasonic would put out such a middling release. The fact that these 750 W PSUs are not a walk in the park must be...

GPUs to See Price Increase Due to Import Tariffs, Other PC Components to Follow

I'll still end up buying a 3080 but I'm pretty surprised that it's a Republican president and congress that raised taxes on muh computer parts. Unfortunately now that we're in these tariffs it's a lose-lose situation. It takes a long time to wind down an economic war or pivot to new supply...

NVIDIA Partners Bundle Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War with RTX 3080 and RTX 3090

This is a great move for them since they get all the good press for including the free game, and then they don't actually have to give it out since stock is still probably somewhere between 20,000 and 50,000 cards shipped, and most of those were before this promotion. Nvidia really has this...

NVIDIA CEO Comments on RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 Supply Shortages

I see comments on Reddit and here about who got a card and how many were at the store. I keep an eye on nowinstock.net and read the history to see what I missed. There are no cards available. There's probably like 10,000 RTX 3080s out there right now, and fewer 3090s. I have rarely ever seen...

Why I don't buy from Newegg anymore...

I bought kitty litter from Amazon because I was curious. Sure enough, they shipped me a 40 lb bag with free shipping at the same price as the Petco that is out of stock half the time. I don't understand how Amazon made money off of that order. If I tried to ship 40 lbs it would probably cost me...

Microsoft Details Xbox Series X SoC, Drops More Details on RDNA2 Architecture and Zen 2 CPU Enhancements

I don't see that as a ridiculous price. Adjusted for inflation, it's just ahead of the Xbox One, and way below the PS3 at launch. Even though the constant dollar price is not too bad, I think that there's going to be quite the sticker shock just from the large number. Also, I fully expect that...

    Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB

If I had to take a guess as to why Samsung is so clueless about the QVO and SSD pricing in general, I would say that it is due to their previous lead in SATA SSDs that allowed them to take a premium from gamers and enthusiasts for years. Their 850 Evo was all around the best choice at the time...

MSI Launches Radeon RX 5600 XT Gaming M(X) Graphics Card

Like most graphics card releases, AMD and Nvidia will likely release the expensive flagship GPUs first, and trickle out the lower end ones over the course of months. The 960, 1060, and 2060 all took half a year to come out after their bigger brothers, and the 5600 XT similarly took a long time...

Cable Matters Launches Portable 4-Port USB-C and USB 3.1 Ethernet Switches

I can't tell if this is a dumb idea or not. First off, if the hub relies on the host operating system to do any of the networking, this could be a reliability issue. Who wants to lose a connection on their hub because one of the clients dropped? Two, I'm curious if it is just a dumb hub or if...

Apple Silicon Will Support Thunderbolt 4

Good on Apple. They should roll their own implementation instead of giving Intel more money as I bet that Intel would find a way to get the same amount of profit from them per Mac as if they didn't change the CPU to in-house. Apple has a head start since they were involved since the beginning...

Video codec H.266 / VVC official: 50% smaller than H.265 with the same quality

8k video is a long ways away. Most cameras used in Hollywood and TV record 6.5k max, and there are still plenty of movies being finished at 2k digital intermediates. In other words, 5+ years after 4k TVs first started, we are still catching up on the production side. I have no doubt that 8k will...
