The simple fact is Both parts are very low yield cards and both companies know we have silly people with more money than common sense that will pay to have "The Fastest Bestest graphics card money can buy". If no one bought them they would lower prices.
You are wrong, extra vram costs money. A lot of people will gladly pay for the extra performance + double the vram. Funny how many people were just bitching about the amount of vram on Nvidia cards before AMD released their new cards. That extra $80 isn't going to be a deal breaker for anyone...

That's a very interesting take on things. I think if they do have another card coming in a few months they will target the later seasons (late fall and Winter) in order to capitalize on holiday shoppers.
