Using old SSD for page file. Would it do anything?

If you're currently using a new (ish) SSD for your OS, reusing your old SSD for your page file would potentially (probably not noticeably) decrease your performance

New build, No POST, No Power

Contacted MSI Tech Support, and literally received an answer 2 minutes later. Serious props to those guys Turns out my old TPM chip isn't compatible with my new MB. So I need a new TPM. That's all :)

New build, No POST, No Power

I did not, but I've never had that stop me from doing a reload on my old box. Would that stop a post? Plus TPM was disabled in the BIOS of the new build so it the BIOS shouldn't even had looked at it, right ?

New build, No POST, No Power

Started putting things back together and the problem cropped back up. I do think the switches are a little iffy, but it's my TPM chip (sorry, i forgot about that!). With my TPM chip plugged in, No Post - even when I jump the power pins. Flip the power switch off, Take the TPM chip out, flip...

New build, No POST, No Power

Solved (ish) I think Thermaltake (I bought a new Level 20 VT case) messed up with wiring in the front panel a little bit. Hitting the Reset switch worked to power on. Now hitting the power switch works to power on (and reset doesn't). Any rational person reading the above would say "oh, he...

New build, No POST, No Power

(Possibly) Dumb question - How do I make it post without the case switch? Nevermind, youtube. EDIT 2: In the case: - Took out VC, nothing - Took out HDDs, nothing Out of the case: - jump power pins - post :| So I'm wondering if I just installed the power button header in wrong?

New build, No POST, No Power

Hey all, I've had a crap week, and it's ended even crappier. I got around to building the system I bought parts for on Cyber Monday: i5-10600K MSI MPG Z490M Gaming Edge WiFi Gaming Motherboard CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4-28800) C18 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus Reusing my...

    NVMe RAID-1 on X570

Hey all, The new Ryzen CPUs have caught my eye, and I've been looking into the PCI-E lanes for the NVMe drives. Unlike Intel, AMD puts an m.2 drive directly off the CPU, which gives rise to my questions. Say we have an X570 board with: 2x Gen4 M.2 slots off of the PCH 1x Gen4 M.2 slots off of...

How are PCIE lanes alotted to components?

@therealmeep Your suggestion of RTFM was apt - according to page 21 of the board in question, the M.2 slots are run off of the PCH, which is separate from the PCI-E Bus the GPUs plug into. Similarly, the 2x PCIE x1 slots also run off of the PCH. This simple diagram answered all of my...

How are PCIE lanes alotted to components?

Hey guys. I've been looking into ow PCIE lanes are used by components, and I some questions that I haven't been able to find answers to. The title doesn't really state my question(s) in a succinct manner, so I have an example. i5-10400 CPU supports 16 PCIE Lanes Z490 Chipset Processor PCIE...

    Upgrade to last 2-3 years

TBH I want to keep what I have until then. But, the board has started to degrade and is giving me issues with the SATA chipset, and I've started noticing other performance issues as well. Up until the past 6 weeks the only game that was CPU bound was MW, and I could live with that. Now, anytime...

    Upgrade to last 2-3 years

Hey All, I've been out of the loop for awhile now, and it looks like it's time to upgrade my CPU/MB/RAM due to this thread here. I'm looking for a cheaper combo (< $500), as I'll be building an entirely new rig when DDR5 and PCI NMVe 5.0 are mainstream. From what I've read, DDR5 and PCI NMVe...

MSI Z87 MPower - A2 error on Post

Fixed it! First, i reseated everything (CPU, RAM, Video Cards) and removed the CMOS battery. Then, I plugged my drives back in 1 by 1, enabled my OC, and my security settings (TPM, Secure Boot, etc.). The instability returned and error. For kicks I decided to remove my OC. Everything worked...

MSI Z87 MPower - A2 error on Post

@Caring1 yes, I have been! After I built this system I got my BS and MS in ComSci and now I'm working :) Given my recent edits, I'm really leaning toward the MB needing replacement. I will do more extensive isolation testing tomorrow, as you suggested Which chipset should I be shopping for...

MSI Z87 MPower - A2 error on Post

Hey all, My current rig (in specs) has developed an A2 error on post, preventing a boot. Some googling indicated that this is an indication of an IDE or other related error, and suggests unplugging drives one by one to figure out which drive has failed. So, one by one, I unplugged each drive...
