Whether it killed your MB or not I have to agree that it's stupid mounting mechanism. I've had LF2 and the mouting in LF3 is a step down, simply because of how hard it is to get that second screw in.
It's easy to slip a screwdriver and make a hole in your MB and overall it's simply not very nice...
Issue for me with HD2 was my OC. I returned to default and it works without issues. Even the Power Limit needed to be default. Otherwise crash after 5 minutes.
I have my Nitro+ on 460W. If we look at hwinfo maximum power draw reports it's hitting over 500W easily and yet at 40% fan speed set to max it runs at 88-90C on hotspot and delta is only 20C to edge.
So I would say that there is something wrong with the card or mounting of the waterblock.
