as i understand it the reason for this move is because the x-meridian7.1 already has the best feature set/ quality of sound output even compared to the x-fi with the exceptions of eax 3/4/5, hardware sound acceleration for games, and the x-fi drivers support open-al some of the x-fis drawbacks...
