I wonder what kind of performance we would be at now for traditional programmable shading and rasterization if RT and "neural processing" weren't consuming transistor budget. We are essentially back in the days of non-unified architectures.
They had to shut down single player games. Well that's interesting.
But, I'm sure the problem is the story of ever increasing development costs of what they make and that gaming has been changing (their player base isn't growing according to their clever plans). Which is the game industry...
There was a Broadwell chip with 60MB L3 cache. They aren't new to big L3. Sapphire Rapids has around 110MB L3 and also optionally a huge L4. More cache is just the natural progression for all these companies because the problems to solve are the same as ever.
It's not like they ever left CPUs.
I wish the Shield Tablet X1 had been released. I still occasionally plug the Shield Tablet K1 into the TV and play some games or use it as a media player.
I remember when people wanted to stay on DOS. And when people didn't want to move from Windows 98 to XP. :)
Windows 12 or whatever it will be called must be right around the corner.
I think the worst major release was probably Vista. It and Win7 were so slow until SSDs became popular...
FSR is kind of interesting for my old notebook with 980M and my desktop with a 1080 Ti. But the old approach of just reducing resolution works too.
I suppose the TPU results represent a demographic with recent GPUs. I am running a 3080 12GB in the main PC (used mostly for VR).
I noticed at a local Best Buy they had about 10 of these open box. I think I saw the microSD card problems appear in customer reviews on launch week but people keep buying them I guess.
This developing premium handheld market is kind of interesting to see. The el cheapo Chinese handheld...
Redfall was very cheap on Epic back during their holiday sale. I played a few hours of it. I think it's alright. It's kind of an east coast port town borderlands loot shooter experience I guess. With a fruity Prey / Deathloop / Dishonored motif going on.
It's unfortunate to hear about...
I think their mobile objectives are at odds with whatever this PC push is supposed to be. Trying to impress compared to the PC incumbents would take some massive investment.
Adreno was built by ATI guys. They reorganized the letters in Radeon. I wonder if any of them are still over there.
I thought Secure Boot was cracked like 10 years ago. Which actually would be not long after it first appeared lol.
We better just go back to the old school BIOS. Just had that sketchy boot sector virus protection that you always left off.
I seem to remember rumors of an even bigger Navi product than Navi 31, but they apparently decided to not bother with it. I suppose another configuration of chiplets. Maybe that's been used for a Radeon Pro board. Perhaps the scaling just isn't there to get it past 4090 in a reasonable manner.
