    x4 x8 instead of x8 x8 pci e

I was going to suggest that you might be using the wrong set of PCIE slots, but that board (ASRock Z77 Extreme4) only has two PCIE x16 slots and the 16 lanes should evenly split between them if both slots are populated. I'd either guess the program you're using is reporting the lane counts...

    Xenturion's Folley (Mini ITX Build)

So, I may have gotten a little overzealous in my recent build. While I did plan for and consider thermals, I dramatically underestimated how much heat an R9 290 would produce. The Parts: i5-4670K @ 4 Ghz ASRock Z87E-ITX 8GB G.Skill 1866 600GB 10K RPM /w 64GB cache 2x 64GB RAID0 Sandisk SSDs...

    The first non-ref R290/R290X spotted

I don't mind cryptocurrency; I just wish the work done was tied to something useful, like World Community Grid or Folding@Home. I've been waiting for the non-reference R9 290s because they represent so much value for money at their ~$430 MSRPs. But at $570, it's a hard sell. I think, in...

MSI Radeon R9 290 Series Gaming PCB Pictured

I have to admit, I hate to see that they've priced the 290 at $100 more than the original retail release price. I've been waiting for the AIB partner boards to be released, but at $500, I could have bought the reference model and the Arctic Accelero aftermarket cooler. I'm definitely considering...

AMD GPU'14 Event Detailed, Announces Radeon R9 290X

I also looked through the slides, but I couldn't find it there either. It's nice that they've followed Nvidia's lead because removing the requirement of DP definitely reduces the entry price of multi-display setups.

AMD GPU'14 Event Detailed, Announces Radeon R9 290X

Excellent. They finally dropped the requirement of an active DisplayPort adapter for 'legacy' monitors in EyeFinity. (Presumably eliminating the screen tearing you get on one monitor from using an adapter; not to mention them dying) I suspect a 290 or 280X will be my next card. I'll wait for the...

    Wooden ITX box

It's good to see that you're modifying the case. I had to admit I was a little worried on the first post when I saw the plans for watercooling and then "Elite 120" and "ideal chassis". I've got an HTPC build using one. It's really not the most well thought out case. Probably why Cooler Master...

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (a.k.a. WTF DO YOU HAVE IN THAT DELL!?)

Cooling is definitely going to be a challenge with an X58 system and a GTX 480 in there. Although, if the left panel is indeed perforated like in the image, it might not be too tough. Think you might have some video card length-clearance issues as well against the HDD bays, but I might be mistaken.

To raid or not to raid

The sequential read comment was more of a joke. It's pretty much all that RAID0 HDDs are good for. Any random reads or writes tend to get dished out at single HDD speed. RAID0 Solid State Drives are another story, though. I think you're better off with the larger drive now that you've...

To raid or not to raid

Well, how badly do you need redundancy? RAID 1 is great if you're worried about downtime. If one drive dies, you simply replace the drive and rebuild the array or disable the array and keep going on the remaining drive. RAID 1 doesn't really provide any protection against viruses or software...

    [US] i7 3770K - $60 + Shipping (Intel Retail Edge)

I was a part of this program at one point. It's actually extremely nice. In the summer of 2009, I managed to get a full copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 Ultimate, a Core i7-920, and an DX58SO motheboard for $354. Definitely was a steal. They called it the "Big Deal" and it came around...

    "Thief" Optimized for AMD Technologies

Gotta love how they keep touting CrossFire like there's nothing wrong. If you're sending reviewers an alpha driver shortly after the release of a card, there's probably something amiss. Whenever I see an ad for the 7990, I always think, "Yeah, I'll admit that the number of attempted frames...

AMD Unleashes First-Ever 5 GHz Processor

I wonder if this will have the 220W TDP. And with that, I wonder what board's VRMs will be able to handle it. I'd imagine AMD will come up with a compatibility list.

    Thermalright HR-22 Makes Public Appearance

I love how in the picture, it's already slightly angled down from the stress. I'm even more amused by the fact that it doesn't look like they'd be able to fit the side panel back on.

    BitFenix Prodigy M (mATX)

I've been interested in the BitFenix Prodigy ever since building one for my brother for Christmas this past year. I really enjoyed the portability and the powerful system you could build in there. I followed a few mods of them including Fruergaard's X79 Prodigy w/ 2 HD 7950's and Adamski's mATX...
