Noctua to Offer Free LGA-1366 Compatibility Upgrades

With Intel Core i7 Processors and compatible motherboards around the corner, related hardware manufacturers such as memory and coolers, are having an equally busy time with product launches. Noctua on its part, has decided to provide its customers with free mounting plates and retention modules, that make all its coolers post-2005 compatible with Intel's new socket.

The Austrian manufacturer plans to throw this offer open shortly, with customers requiring to submit their proofs of purchase online to avail their free retention modules. A public announcement of this offer is expected shortly.

Noctua makes some fine coolers so I dont think it will be a problem for them. I really like this decision. Too bad alot more companies wont follow.

If it can cool a Pentium D 130W chip, it should be able to cool a Core i7, though don't expect an overclocker-grade cooling.

Maybe the corei7's won't be much hotter than the core 2's ? Maybe i'm crazy though

With 16 MB of L3 cache, and new immigrants from the northbridge (teh memory ctrlr), It's bound to be a little hotter, though 130W isn't half bad. Intel is working on bringing that down to 95W in H1'09 though.

damn northbridgers takin our land. Anyway but did the athlons get hotter when they moved the memory controller onto the chip ?

Noctua also plans to do a LGA1366 edition of the NH-U12P which will include the bracket and a second NF-P12 fan. I'm guessing with two fans it ought to be enough to keep the Core i7 chips cool.

it'd make alot more people happy if you didnt need to keep the reciept....

i mean i keep alot of receipts, but not one for a cooler.... meh im not going to 1366 yet anyway

If you bought your Noctua cooler online (like on an e-tailer), you can always request a copy of the invoice. Ground store buyers without invoices aren't that lucky, I agree.
