Early Performance Projections for Phenom II X4 940 Trickle-in

This graph insults our intelligence.:( The CPU 3Dmark is the only useful thing on there. What's the deal AMD? I thought you had fired all your dodgy marketing people.

What we need is a chart that compairs money to benchmarks. Example...

CPU A: $100 per mflop
CPU B: $79 per mflop

Something along those lines. It all boils down to the dollar and typically you get what you pay for...unless you overclock it! It's like free money.

Come on guys

Well hopefully AMD will throw a good CPU, i will hope that AMD will pass the Core 2 D's and Q's in terms of performance. All of you who says that AMD is lost and that you dont believe on the early benchmarks should think that if it wasnt for the Athlon's 64, we will seeing a stupid version of the Pentium 6 or 7 or maybe we'll be stuck with the P4 with HT

Personally i think Intel need some competition so they can stay honest with the public.

All of the Intel fanboys should be thankful to the Green company, Intel havent been honest.

You speak as if the opposite has never been true

wow , great performance , but i want see test with other games which is use cpu well (kill it) , like crysis , assassin's creed , and far cry2 in ultra high with high AA too

This is awesome news. Sure it may be against the Q series, but hell the current Phenoms cant touch them. At least AMD is improving, shit, half you people dont see them kicking I7 in the nuts so you get mad and disappointed. That is just irritating. HEll if they can compete on some level with I7 that in itself is amazing. With them now having integrated Memory, its even harder to keep up with.

Not to mention the new Core i7s have been shown to only be a tad better in gaming and not really much else (though it is an improvement over the C2 and C2D series). Should be an interesting match. I think the AM3 procs will be better suited for the i7s.

True, the i7s seem to show little performances gains compared to Q9000 and E8000 so AMD just might get there. However, the performance is often blocked off by the graphics card and the multi-core optimizations. The i7 doesn't prove its worth for multi-core performance anyway, its there for extended compatibility with the 8 threads that it posesses, the same thing will go for the Westmere chips to replace the Bloomfield with a 32nm process and 2QPTs. AMD is competing in the mainstream as a result, trying to out-value the Intel processors rather than outperforming them. However AMD is finally going to take a long shot to determine their fate against the i7s and C2Qs. If the Phenoms pay off, AMD will get some time to revise the current Phenom 2s with new revisions and steppings to get ready for Lynnfield 1160 chips, which will be the new standard desktop processor for Best Buy to sell off.

dont know if this has been said yet but didnt have the time to check...but if amd is following the steps of the rv770...then we might just be in for a surprise...
remember the 4850 was slated against the 8800gt when in actuality it was better than the gtx and cost less... a la 4870 vs gtx 280...
maybe atleast i hope that this is the case because i have been waiting for a phenom for my spider/dragon...
kinda mad at intel though as for my htpc setup...i can only go up to a q9450/9550, without a change of mobo
