Buffalo recently released the LinkStation Mini line-up of NAS devices that fit SSD drives as storage media. Designed specially to ensure maximum transfer speeds, zero noise levels and high reliability for the customer, the LS-WSS240GL/R1 weights in just half a kilo and offers 240GB of storage space. The SSD NAS device measures 40 (W) x 82 (H) x 135 (D) mm and connects through a Gigabit Ethernet or a USB 2.0/1.1 port. General availability of the cube is expected later this month, with retail cost for the 240GB version around $1,146.

Design needs further improvement

The mini-linkstation is a neat device, EXCEPT what is the point of making the thing so small only to have a BIG external power adapter/wallwart? It requires more wires and more space and more opportunities for "trip" and damage and cable spaghetti.

The earlier linkstations plugged stright into the wall socket with an AC 2 pin power cord.

Buffalo need to get back to that system.

So how reliable are these SSD hard disks, do they no longer have a limited # of writes?

Are system administrators putting these in mission critical systems with great success?

the latest generations are claiming 3 years plus, at 50GB a day.

wow.. overpriced up the a**. whats wrong with rotational drives? man for that money you can backup your data on 10 1tb drives!

whew that thing is pricey man oh man, but I wonder how much performance its packin.
