Today LaCie announced the LaCinema Classic Hard Disk, suited for all fans of digital movies, music, and photography. Designed by award-winning industrial designer Neil Poulton, this attractive multimedia storage device can pack more than 1,000 movies, or 250,000 songs, or 1 million photographs with up to 1 TB (terabyte) of capacity. Weighing a mere 33 ounces, LaCinema Classic is extremely compact - a perfect storage device for entertainment in the home. Customers simply load content from their PC or Mac on the Classic drive and connect it to their TV for instant playback. No configuration required. Users will also enjoy HDMI 1080p upscaling of movies and photos.

"Without realizing it, many consumers have developed their own library of digital content, through a growing collection of movies, music, and personal photos," said Patrick Salin, Multimedia business unit manager, LaCie. "The LaCinema Classic offers users just what they need to store and play their favorite content wherever desired, connected to their PC or Mac, or directly to their Television, for an affordable price" Designed for multimedia, the LaCinema Classic works with numerous video, music, and photo formats, including MPEG4, MP3 and JPEG as well as HD-JPEG for superior viewing of images over HDMI output. An SPDIF coaxial cable is included to maximize the audio experience.

LaCinema Classic is DivX-certified so customers can watch DivX transcoded videos with high quality and resolution. LaCinema Classic comes in 500 GB (gigabyte) and 1 TB models, offering the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface for PC or Mac, as well as HDMI and composite outputs for video, and stereo and coaxial S/PDIF outputs for audio.

Availability
LaCinema Classic is available now and retails for $159. LaCie products are available through the LaCie Online Store or LaCie Resellers. For more information, visit http://www.lacie.com.

omg no mkv!
AND isn't divx7 out?

Video: MPEG-4 AVI, XviD, DivX (3.11, 4.x, 5.x)
Audio: MP3, WMA
Photo: JPEG (includes HD-JPEG mode for improved quality)
Subtitles: SRT, SSA, ASS, SUB, SMI

Video: Composite video (cable included), HDMI(cable included and upscaling to 1080p) Audio: Stereo (L/R), digital coaxial SPDIF, HDMI v1.1 <- only 1.1 the new devices have usually 1.3 right?

Its upgradeable? i mean, i may support .mkv in a near future?. Its a shame that doesnt support it..

Wat about the "award-winning industrial designer Neil Poulton",i mean, come on guys, every single LaCie product that he "design" its pretty much the same, square, shiny, an thats it. Everybody can put a blue led under any device.

you only need HDMI 1.2 and 1.3 if you are displaying res over 1920×1200p60, playing Super Audio CD (DSD) support, Deep Color, xvYCC, Auto lip-sync, Dolby TrueHD bitstream capable, DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream capable and Updated list of CEC commands.

as this isn't meant to be a HD gaming/blu-ray box, 1.1 standard will be more than enough

This thing should be an inch deeper and have TCP/IP network port added for a true network server for up/download of media files. :shadedshu

Has any of you guys tested the LaCie LaCinema Classic Hard Disk for a picture show on Full HD TV screen? Here are my questions:

- Can you manually view images e.g. by pressing the Next and Prev buttons?
- For the automated slide show, can you customize the time interval?
- What happens while pausing the slideshow? Does the last picture stay on screen?
- Can you move back a picture while the slide show is playing?
- What are the sorting options of jpgs? alphabetical, numeric or time-oriented? Any way to change the sorting options?

Thank you for stopping by and for any answer!

thank you - of course I cannot read nor write English - especially not in between the lines of a manual which does not contain the answers I was loooking for.

Never mind - I am sure I will find another forum with more helpful people. :)
