Advanced Micro Devices has slashed the manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of its ATI flagship graphics board, X-bit Labs reports. The new prices come as no surprise to everyone, now that NVIDIA has launched GeForce GTX 295, ATI has to withstand its position, so slashing the prices of ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the first logical move. From now on, ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 with 2GB GDDR5 costs $449, down $100 from the previous price of $549. Moreover, some partners of ATI such as Newegg now offer $50 mail-in rebate for select Radeon HD 4870 X2 models, which immediately precalculates the card's price down to $399. If you're looking for a cheap ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 dual-GPU monster, now is the time.

4970x2?? By the way it's written i think ati will release it!!

Well I can get a HD 4870X2 in store for HK$2970 here....
Thats... US$371.25?

I think AMD is gonna take a break until the HD 5000's. No point in revising RV700 now.

still to expensive for me.:(

Hehehe , they are killing Nvidia with these prices. The strategy was low cost design , not necessarly bad , comparing GTX260 and HD4870 you know the nvidia product is more costly to produce , then , comparing 4870x2 to gtx295 you know the nvidia product is much more costly to produce.
Considering the perf. difference you pay from a 4870x2 to gtx295 and you've got a winner :) , yeah baby , kill them with absurd low prices in their view.
You can understand XFX for integrating ati now , how much do they have to suffer before Nvidia launches a more profitable design ?

they are still upto £425 in the uk , wont make much difference here tbh

WEll that is alot better for us if we want to get one. Personally Ill stick with my 48701gb DARK Knight. However, if I wanted one, Id contact ole dude in the Hong Kong Area if he can get them that cheap <G>

very nice the gtx295 do problems for 4870x2 like x2 do many problems to gtx280 before and that is good for us , but maybe is the time to release the x2 bridge driver

apparently PCI express cards do need a GART at least per this quick reference

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_Address_Remapping_Table

and that is usually the responsibility of the motherboard makers to provide them, otherwise they would be breaking antitrust policies if they dont provide them

can someone dig a little deeper at this subject because i think that is whats causing alot of problems for the average joes around here.

I love competition!! How about you friends:toast:

ya everyone should but there are still too many that want to see the underdog fail (monopoly supporters:shadedshu)
