Apple Debutes New 20-inch and 24-inch iMacs

Hot on the heels, Apple today also refreshed its iMac line. The long-awaited update of the iMac includes a 20-inch model for only $1,199 and three 24-inch iMac variants with a mere start price of $1,499. That's the same price as previous generation 20-inch iMac with one difference, the new 24-inch iMac models deliver a 30 percent larger display, twice the memory and twice the storage. All configurations run a single Intel Core 2 Duo processor, support up to 8 GB of 1066 MHz SO-DIMM DDR3 memory, up to 1 TB of storage, and several options for graphics processors.

For that much yes! Even you could get a better PC than that Mailman (I know you only use AMD since you own stock in them) and the PC would be sooo much better

Too bad you can't run Mac OS X on those cheap PCs. Some people have no problem paying a premium for a beautiful integrated machine that works without having to worry about the problems associated with cheap Windows PCs. Not everyone is an enthusiast.

You can run OS X on a cheap PC, but it's a bit of a pain to keep updated, as you need hacked kernels and drivers most of the time.

The bottom line is, these are great computers at a good price when it comes to all-in-ones. I just wish they would go back to using PVA and S-IPS panels in them.

I'd say this is better, Sony has a few all in one's for around $1000 that compete reasonably w/ the imac. This one's got a blu-ray, I don't know why they won't put that in a high end mac..... Anyway, this is a pretty decent upgrade, the $1199 version and the $999 macbook are imo the only products that really approach bang/buck when compared w/ pc's (although not really hardware wise, but it gets worse further up the line). It really just comes down to whether you like Mac OS or Windows (which the former does have it's advantages, especially for the average user, such as lack of need for anti-virus and fragmentation and registry cleaners, and a somwhat simpler interface).

That is a pretty good deal. Is that it's normal price? (I should mention, I think it's ugly as hell tho. lol)

And Mac doesn't have BD playback yet. I think it may be a licensing dispute.

Yeah I'm thinking license too, that's the only reasonable explanation I can come up w/ for a $1000+ computer w/ a nice monitor not having blu-ray. And yeah I think that's it's normal price, it doesn't say anything about a sale and usually BB flaunts that. They have some others too. And yeah, when it comes to sophisticated style, nothing beats an apple, they do look pretty compared to pc's usually.

The nice thing about the Vaios that I just noticed is that they use standard desktop cpus. Nice for tinkerers, anyway. Not so nice for power consumption tho. Guess that depends on your priorities tho.
