Buffalo today presented the DVSM-PN58U2V DVD writer primarily designed to be used with netbooks. The optical drive is installed in a super slim body with 137x20x142 mm dimensions and weighs only 340 g. Available in black or white, the new recorder can write DVD-R/+R SL and DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-R/+R DL at 6x, DVD-RAM at 5x, and CD-R, CD-RW at 24x. It uses one or two USB ports for connection, depending on the write speed. The Buffalo DVSM-PN58U2V is set to ship in mid-March, and sell for about $85.5.

And what's so "netbook" about it, anyway? Sounds exactly as "iPod compatible" earbuds and "Vista optimized" RAM... S**t, I hate PR language.

Dah ya I wonder if I can use it as a walkman. Netbook in one pocket and it in the other.:toast::roll:

The economy is in the shitter, so PC developers are turning to netbooks in order to spark sells. Buffalo is just trying to feed off this new trend.

Damn right. Either people are getting smarter, or poorer (much more probable) - anyway, fewer are inclined to buy new stuff, given they already have enough of it (or similar) in stock. I don't think vendors are going to get this straight with new labels, though. Who knows, we'll wait and see.
