NVIDIA OEM GeForce G 100 Series Cards Launched

NVIDIA today stealthy placed on its website the rebranded cards that are going to take over the old GeForce 9 series in the OEM market. Announced without big PR, and not available for individual purchase, the OEM GeForce GTS 150, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GT 120 and GeForce G 100 series are the well known GeForce 9800 GTX+, GeForce 9600 GSO, GeForce 9500 GT and GeForce 9400 GS under new names. All cards are DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1 compatible, and use PCI-Express x16 interfaces. The GeForce GTS 150 has a 256-bit memory interface, 1 GB of GDDR3 memory and 738 MHz/1836 MHz/1000 MHz core/shader/memory clock speeds. The "new" GeForce 9600 GSO has a 192-bit memory interface, 768 MB of RAM and 500 MHz/1250 MHz/ 500 MHz core/shader/memory clocks. Тhe 9500 GT resembling GeForce GT 120 sports 128-bit memory interface, up to 512 MB DDR2 config, and 500 MHz/1400 MHz/500 MHz core/shader/memory clock speeds. Finally the GeForce G 100 look-alike features 64-bit memory interface, 512 MB DDR2 memory and 567 MHz/1400 MHz/500 MHz core/shader/memory clock speeds.

the 100 series will be available to OEM manufacturors only. But yeah its still quite misleading, i dont like at all this "rebranding" strategy.

Sort of, the 250 is a slightly enhanced version, and manufacturors are free to modify as they see fit. So the 150 is a bog-standard 9800gtx+

But yes... very silly...

how long have you been doing this stuff?

i would bet you that you see these cards online for sale OEM then within a short time some companys start selling them "retail" as happened with the tnt vanta and tnt2 m64 cards(both where orignal to be OEM only cards)

Yeah i guess you are right, though that thought did cross my mind, its only a matter of time before someone sells the cards as "the brand new geforce series!"

99% of the people who buy this know jack-shit about the techical details. Because thats just how they are, and they just dont really want to give a damn. Thats not in their interest. This is what Nvidia is taking advantage of, instead of actually innovating.

Of course they will be pissed, but i think almost half of them THINK its faster.
Regardless nvidia (and subvendors) get their money.

The 8800GS which was renamed the 9600GSO which was replaced by the 256bit is now being replaced by the 192bit original

why would they have even bothered doing the crappy 256bit version of the GSO then, to get some quick money.

Nvidia is coming out to ATI and saying, we got nothing, we can't compete with you on the low end.

and Nvidia cannot compete with ATI with any of their cards under the 9600GSO now, they just can't,

and whoever said that the GTS250 was different than the 9800GTX+ lied, cause they're on newegg now, and the nearly every single one of them is the same as their 9800GTX+ equivalents PCB and all, a few even cost more than their 9800GTX compainions and the prices on the 1GB+ version all suck.

Nvidia better shape up soon or ATI is gonna run all over em just like Nvidia did to ATI a while back.

In your link others than EVGA's are hard to tell, but EVGA ones are the new ones, have the new PCB, etc... If you look at them closely you'll see they are shorter, hence new.

Prices are ok too IMO, $159 for a slightly overclocked 1GB card seems about right to me. $10 cheaper than the average HD4850 1 GB, while at the same time is faster.

I can't believe they spent so much of their time just for this. ATI is so going to win if the next thing they do is rebrand the 9800GX2.
