Microsoft Announces Availability of Internet Explorer 8

If IE8 is damn good at JavaScript, I may say goodbye to Google Chrome for awhile.

It's better than IE7 -- it's not faster than Chrome. And the new 2.0 version of Chrome that's coming out is even faster.

I tried 8 before the launch and didn't like it. I hope they fixed the bugs it had.

I really hope they did too, or else I'm going to have to start recommending people not use it, and that's sad, because there's actually a lot of rendering improvements in it. However, the JavaScript performance is terrible.

If you're wanting to delve a little more into the technical side of things, check out this post over at the ExtJS forums -- one of the most popular enterprise-level JavaScript frameworks out there. IE8 is apparently so slow on some stuff it makes apps almost unusable.

IE8 is apparently piss poor on high-level rendering -- what was weird is that this problem wasn't there in the beta, and only came out in the RC1. Microsoft has responded, but basically stated that it was too late to change anything.

One more to go. I'll wait for SP2 then it's major cleanup time.

I never download beta's or RC's, i'd rather have the final version. It's too easy complain about anything while the product is not complete.

Which could mean Windows 7 will see IE9 in a year or two.

Great!!! a new version of Internet Exploiter! Something new for the hackers to screw with!:toast:

Thanks for the heads up, guess I better stick with Chrome.

Anyone find a way to get rid of that "Download Windows Search to improve history and favorites results" message when typing in a URL? I hate Windows Search so over my dead body will I be installing it.

Been using IE8 (final) all day and working great!

Same here, after using IE8 Final, it is actually surprisingly good O.o'
Very fast indeed. Stables, no glitches/bugs/annoying thingies so far.
Good stuff Microsoft, good stuff...

Once again I only use IE for WInUpdates and RSS Feeds.

All browsers are customizable. It sucks that we all have to get our hands dirty after every install, but if you want a stable, clean and fast browser, you need to config. There are many many tweaks and variables for each of the browsers.

Im totally happy with Ie because it does everything i need, and is more stable and secure then any other browser ( once tweaked ). Please note, that anyone that doesnt have a custom firewall to go hand in hand with their browser shouldnt even bother responding to security flaw claims because its upto every end user to be aware at all times and to make sure they are not compromised.

In my experience, everyone thats ended up with a virus/trojan, deserved it. Im not saying they deserved hardware failures or the loss of data or even the hijack of their internet but they did deserve to be compromised due to their lack of awareness.

Gawd im harsh, gawd im rude. Protect yourselves, because you will always have someone like me pointing fingers at you and laughing because you thought it was the browsers inability.
