NVIDIA Corporation, inventor of the graphics processing unit (GPU), today announced that its inaugural GPU Technology Conference will take place September 30 to October 2, 2009. The event will focus on how developers, engineers, and researchers are using the GPU to solve the world's most important computing challenges.

The conference will encompass three simultaneous events -- the Emerging Companies Summit, the GPU Developer Summit, and the NVIDIA Research Summit. Attendees will learn about the shifts occurring in computing, preview disruptive technologies, obtain tools and techniques that could impact mission-critical projects now, and network with experts and peers from across a broad range of fields.

"The GPU has quickly become one of the world's most important processors," stated Bill Dally, chief scientist at NVIDIA. "This event will bring together some of the brightest minds who will share the tools and techniques they used to leverage the enormous parallel processing power of the GPU."

The event will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California. Its three events include:

Emerging Companies Summit
  • A unique event that provides start-ups that are basing their business around GPU computing with the opportunity to present their company to entrepreneurs and venture capitalists involved in the GPU computing ecosystem.

GPU Developer Summit
  • A 3-day series of technical presentations, tutorials and panels aimed at developers of consumer, professional and high performance computing applications looking to exploit more of the GPU's parallel processing power using industry-standard languages such as C/C++ and Fortran as well as APIs such as Direct3D, DirectX Compute, OpenCL and OpenGL.

NVIDIA Research Summit
  • A summit designed by researchers and academics for researchers and academics. Sessions are aimed at those using GPUs in science and engineering research who are keen to learn how GPU computing can increase computational power and reduce time-to-discovery.

Further detailed conference information, including keynotes, sessions, tutorials, roundtables, and call for submissions can be found here.

Please no drama over "inventor of the graphics processing unit".

Good news for those who still have an Nvidia card ! :)

nvidia is hosting a conference how do make huge power hungry chip and how to profit mere sents of every GPU!:laugh: Seriously they have do get theyre shit together

Wonder if AMD/ATI will be invited. I like the whole emerging business pitching ideas to entrepeneurs, that is very nice of them.

Yes, they will (have to) be invited. Else it loses credibility. Who are they going to call? S3, SiS, Matrox and XGI?

lalz? They have their shit together, believe that. They had triple the revenue ATI had in the last quarter and more then double the market shares than ATI. nVidia is doing more than fine, true story. It's ATI that need to get their shit together. ;)

wtf has this got to do with graphics? Back on topic lads.

I wonder if folding will be a topic discussed?

It's all good , graphicaly , I predict the GPGPU will push the CPU market out.
or thats a hope of mine.

technicaly I don't have any stunning pictures to show , just installed my 1TB raid 2+0

I just came to see what was up , this thread was mainly about saying that I don't feel nvidia invented the GPU , I feel that that honor goes to others before them like kodac and the discoverer of the ossilloscope or you could go back all the way to the egyptian magnifying lense. all of these things led to the development of video processing as we see it today.

basicaly I'm saying anything that displayed visual information or enhanced it were the ground work for todays VPU and GPU , vpu = visual processing unit

or you can just think visual processing.

to call a visual processing unit a graphics processing unit is somewhat of an redundant oxymoronic term , there is a huge difference between the word visual and graphical

visual = processes images
graphic = an image

or you can say it this way

video = video processing
graphics = images on a screen

I believe others can see the difference and that they will refuse to allow nvidia to attempt to inject their false axioms in to the beautiful collective consiousness of electronics.
