I think you misunderstand, it's Sata 3.0 but it's actual name to the public will be Sata 6g. Not a sixth generation, but the possible bandwidth it can trasmit.

I think I rather wait a bit for USB 3.0 to come out to give me the green light. It's pretty cool but I'm pretty fine with the speeds I have for now

It wont happen, todays drives just arent fast enough and most likely never will be. They cant even hit 3Gbp/s mark.
Its all up to SSD drives now.

the bottom line is, unless you have one of those super super fast >300 MB/s SSDs you won't benefit from SATA 6 Gb. I expect a similar adoption progress like we had from SATA I to SATA II
