MSI is readying a new socket AM2+ motherboard based on the AMD 790X + SB710 chipset. The MSI 790X-G45 is an ATX motherboard that makes use of the chipset's feature-set. The CPU is powered by a 4+1 phase circuit which makes use of MSI's APS (Active Phase Switching) function that turns of redundant phases when the load is low. Supporting most socket AM3, AM2+, and AM2 processors, the motherboard's four DDR2 DIMM slots support DDR2-1066 memory for the K10 generation of AMD processors, and DDR2-1200 by overclocking. Its two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots (electrical x8, x8, when both are in use,) provide support for ATI CrossFireX. The SB710 southbridge takes care of six internal SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, an IDE connector for two devices, 8-channel HD audio, and support for Advanced Clock Calibration. Gigabit Ethernet, six USB ports and a serial port, make for the rest of its connectivity. The MSI 790X-G45 will be available in the weeks to come.

Nice, though a GX version would be awesome.

I have the version with SB600, the K9A2 CF and is great Motherboard!

but, i think that the Asus M4A79XTD Evo is better :nutkick:

I still like mine better.

Weird. This is the only 790x / sb710 combo. All others are the 790x / sb750 or 790x / sb600 (yuck).

A few beefs I have with the design: no Mosfet cooling, no EPS12V connector (4 pin only-makes hell for those of us with PSUs that default to 8pin), and only 6 slots.

That last one is a common complaint I've been having a lot of recently. The ATX factor is quite well established (it is not new). And as such, all cases designed for ATX boards have 7 slots for expansion. Why are so many boards being launched today with only 6 slots? Put a 1x pcie slot at the top please! (it makes great for my tiny pcie wireless card)

the 790x-g45 is an am3 board, it uses ddr3 ram, the am2+ version 790xt-g45 is am2+, altho, i cant blame you for the mistake, those ddr3 speeds are slow as hell.

LOL, MSI wants to be a little rebellious? Both Gigabyte and Asus use the "XT" moniker for DDR3, and Gigabyte uses just "X" for DDR2.

MSI name their AM3 boards by chipset now.
This is the 790X chipset. :slap:
