Did you optimise your OS?
Possibly turning of some caching?
What is your antivirirus suite doing during the lag?
Edit: Also is your INTERNET speeds stable and acceptable?

Can be the 40gb for the win7 install, lagging, as it is quite old. Any benchmark of it, or how many points in win7 experience.

w7 benchmark for Hdd is only 4.8, the lowest.

I dont optimise the OS, i use Kaspersky so i dont think its updating is a problem

I believe i got disc several times everyday as the distance from my pc to the modem is quite far and there is other devices in the house. (wireless)

This may be an issue.... does it happen when your the only one logged on the net?
EDIT: hook up to the LAN and test for a while.
