^ the Nvidia mobile graphics cards are much much weaker than their desktop counterparts, and ATI downclocks their mobile graphics cards so it is not surprising that 4850 desktop outperforms 4870m.

Just because they rename the cards

9600m gt is really a 9500gt desktop for example

actually, ati does not dominate the mobile industry. they are cheap solutions to nvidia cards, yes, but in game performance, nvidia performs better, especially in newer games. a desktop ati 4890 has to turn off physics for mirror's edge to run smoothly at 1680X1050, or the fps drops to an unplayable number. My gtx280m however, runs fine at native resolution (1920X1200), and at the same settings as the desktop, except with physics. without a physics processor, you will get no performance on newer games with physics on.

Try reading something about PhysX and its implementation on Mirror's Edge so you can understand how wrong you are.

That and a little bit about graphics cards in general. That talk about "nVidia is BMW and ATI is Opel" is old and ignorant.

you forgot ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 and 4870 X2
and both 260M and 280M is based on G92 as in NOT the same as desktop, so basicly ATI has the fastest GPUs on the mobile market
hate that they called it 260m and many think that its actually a slimmer version of the desktop GTX260(which was their goal) but in reality POOP surprise
