In the era of the power-guzzling GeForce GTX 480, >1000W PSUs don't seem overkill anymore, especially if 2-way or 3-way SLI setups are planned with them. Xilence is readying a new high-end PSU in its XQ line. The XQ 1200W packs four +12V rails, it offers a very high efficiency of 92%, qualifying for the 80 Plus Gold rating. It is cooled by a 135 mm PWM fan, and packs several safe power features such as over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage and short circuit protection. Available a little later this month, the XQ 1200W will sell for 249 EUR.

When I look at all these 1.75 kw hair dryers I suddenly feel maybe pulling 1500 watts through my system won't burn the house down.

No, but it could burn a hole through your wallet, lol.

At this rate cases may have to start having 2 power sup. mounting holes.:twitch:

Exactly twice the price of my 650W Corsair modular! Fair deal! LOL

I love the Gold PSUs but man they command a price premium. Enermax's really entice me, but so do OCZ and ABS.

Just in time - dual/triple GTX470/480 users are practically begging on their knees for a more powerfull PSU.

go go go! this will be gone in no time

92%efficiency , wow extreme quality

I was thinking about the ABS gold for a super build... then I read reviews which seem to suggest it sucks. The Silverstone 1500w seems to be the best psu out now http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=175

This Xilence looks good on paper, but for all we know it could suck too. I can't buy anything without reading reviews anymore.

Not bad, but doesn't stand out particularly.

One thing I've noticed about higher wattage power supplies these days, is the use of the larger top fan, as opposed to standard 80mm in the rear or some customer design like Antec does on their 850 model.

And this is important because not everyone can take full advantage of that.
I think it says a lot more about a company that can pull off a 1000+ watt PSU, that operates comfortably with only one 80mm fan supporting it.

Silverstone did it. 1200watts and an old school rear fan. That's impressive to me

This isn't about pulling it off. You can make the same PSU with a 60mm fan so loud it will drive your neighbors nuts, not just you. The larger fans are quieter, so there's no real reason to want an 80mm fan on your 1200W PSU.
