ViewSonic Unveils Green LED-Backlit Full-HD Monitor

ViewSonic's latest monitor jumps the 'green' (eco-friendly) bandwagon. The VA2250wm is a 22 inch (21.5 inch viewable) LED-illuminated LCD display which pushes the power envelope down to 26W during typical usage, which the company claims to be 40% lesser than tradidional LCD displays with CCFL-illumination. At its size, the panel is full-HD capable (native resolution of 1920 x 1080), has a response time of 5 ms, brightness of 250 cd/m², and contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1). The display has 2W stereo speakers inbuilt, it has a piano-black bezel with a dash of clear acrylic. It takes display input from DVI and D-Sub. Priced at around $225, the VA2250wm is expected to ship in late May.

my 23.6" uses 33W (measured at wall), so really... its nothing special. just another LED screen.

it really is weird to not have HDMI, since its got speakers.


P.S they arent saying the LED's are green, they're saying its a 'green' ( aka eco friendly) monitor with LED backlights

You most likely don't have it on 100% brightness These should consume way less with watchable brightness settings. But seems most are using the same panes, only thing that differs is their advertised dynamic contrast ration, I've seen 2M:1 on the most cheapest of LEDs 5M:1 on LG, 8M:1 on BenQ and now this with 10M:1. All still have 1000:1 actual contrast ratio

Have been looking to get one of these, haven't just decided on 22" 23" or 24", or what manufacturer and with or w/o HDMI and is 5ms enough.

Screen is LCD, illumination is LED-backlit. The "LED" badge on flat-panel monitors/TVs can be misleading 90% of the time. People buy it thinking it's an LED panel.

I run it at default. my housemates 23.6" asus also uses 32-33W.

around here, retail stores and radio/TV ads are calling them "new LED TV's" - its easier to remember than LED backlit, but people seriously think its a new panel type. (plasma/LCD/LED)

seriously,i don't think anyone likes inbuilt speakers,just buy a cheap headset and pronto!

I have seen shoppers go "whoa, this has built in speakers, must be better than the other one!". Cheap marketing ploy, if you ask me. However, I agree that HDMI should be included given that they supplied cheap speakers.

the old inch systems (22/24) was based on 16:10

with a slightly reduced amount of vertical size and the same amount of horizontal size, the inches decreases slightly.

Yes its dodgy that they call a 21.5" a 22", but CRT makers did it all the time.. they counted the damn plastic shell as part of the size of the screen (22" CRT! 19" viewable)

back in the day I had a iiyama vision master 510pro, 22" CRT, 20"viewable, I was glad to see the right screen size when LCD came out. I just hope they don't start that again

Why on earth doesn't this have hdmi? I'd consider this the best 1080p monitor if it did, as my current viewsonic 1080p is the best I've used, def. better than the asus/acer ones.

No. on CRT they advertised the physical screen size but the outer edges were covered in black paint reducing the visible area.
