HP Rolls Out Trio of Value Widescreen Monitors

HP released three new value widescreen monitors for home/office users, the 20-inch S2031, 21.5-inch S2231 and 23-inch S2331. While the S2031 has a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels, the S2231 and S2331 are full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) compliant. All three models feature the same dynamic contrast ratio of 15,000:1, and response time of 5 ms, and display connectivity that includes DVI and D-Sub. The S2031 has a maximum brightness of 250 cd/m², while for the S2231 and S2331 it is 300 cd/m². The three are priced at US $150, $175, and $220, respectively.

ok now im getting confused, why are we making 1080p things with out hdmi, even if it doesn't have speakers i don't care hdmi is my lover

Becuase without audio/speakers, these are solely for PC use, and more PCs have DVI ports then HDMI ports. And since DVI and HDMI are identical once you strip away the audio, having DVI on monitors without speakers makes more sense.

Also, I don't know how "value" these are. Newegg has a w2338h for only $10 more than the S2331(only $4.25 after shipping is considered), and the w2338h has speakers, briteview, and HDMI. And I just bought a w2338h for $145 shipped, now that is what a value 23" HD LCD should cost.

DVI stays connected better too, They've gotta kill D-Sub though, there's adapters that will convert dvi to d-sub(i think anyways) the ideal Monitor would be like DVI and Hdmi or display port.

DVI stays connected better too, They've gotta kill D-Sub though, there's adapters that will convert dvi to d-sub(i think anyways) the ideal Monitor would be like DVI and Hdmi or display port.

The simple adaptors take advantage of the fact that DVI-I sends an analog VGA signal along with a digital signal.

The adaptor can either go on the video card or the monitor really, but the way it is designed now it has to go on the video card side since the monitor side isn't designed to accept the analog signal via DVI.

It could be reworked so the DVI connector on the monitor does it all, and an adaptor allows the use of VGA, but I don't see much point. Having the D-Sub on the monitor isn't hurting anything.
