As several readers may be fully aware of, Microsoft is releasing Windows Vista in several different versions:
  • Vista Home Basic
  • Vista Home Premium
  • Vista Business
  • Vista Enterprise
  • Vista Ultimate

Each edition contains their own feature-set and upgrades/enhancements over the 'lower-level' editions.

ExtremeTech has taken the liberty on writing up an article detailing the differences in each version so the user can get a firm grip on which Vista edition is right for them (if they plan on purchasing it).

Vista Gamer Edition (namslas90's idea)

Vista Cracked Edition!!!:rockout:

though, if you do plan on buying Vista Home premium sounds like the way to go!

Home Premium is all anyone will need, unless you require domain authentication.

i think i will just go for home ultimate edition.....i have the beta RC2 i think......

Im still preying on them breaking down dx10 and putting it on xp :respect:

doesnt vista give less fps in most games when compared to xp thats what gets me down about vista but i dont know if its gone better or what

Yeah unfortunately not everyone has been as keen as Microsoft to release Vista as a fully supported OS and so drivers are still, as of yet, pretty immature.

ahh i see :( hopefully it will improve later i read some article the 3d interface with premium and higher slightly slows gaming down by 10% i think i got it from inquirer

ill probably stick to xp for a while until dx10 really kicks in then itll be time to upgrade

i just want xp :)

i just want xp :)

I know what u mean - XP is perfect. Its only Microsoft wanting to make money, so they are putting out DX10 only on Vista.
In truth there is no reason to buy Vista if ur not a serious gamer, and i cant see ppl who only use Word or Power Point buying an expensive GPU just for that.

Question: Which Vista Edition is right for you?

Answer: NONE of them - Would not touch Vista with a ten foot pole!

Hmmmmm strange, think you missed one off the list......Vista "Pirated" edition??? :rockout:

Vista windows Xp edition cause i aint upgrading

I have heard that dx10 will be brought out on xp, is this not true?

I am happy enough with xp, im not interested in the flash desktop appearance I just want something that works and xp works fine and it's legit and I aint keen on paying for vista imo..

the problem with XP is they fixed all the problems most people have now for the majority Vista is unneeded

Jock, good point!

I say that because largely? I feel this way about Windows Server 2003 SP #2 (RC) here... it's really ALL I NEED for the most part!

:)

* Still, I have said that about Windows 2000 too, that I'd NEVER use XP, & did... in a way, I have to TRY new OS' & their API changes too, so I am aware of them as a developer or networking person (depending on jobs I take)... but, I did move to Windows Server 2003, over 2000 & XP, because imo?

They REALLY did "do it right" on this one, finally (your point in a nutshell)

APK

P.S.=> VISTA's going to be a "hard-sell" to me @ least... I love the new DirectX 10 driven API, it looks nice & many of the "internal plumbing" changes for speed & security, but do I REALLY need them? Not really... not as a home user @ least, not yet!

STILL, imo? DirectX 10 & that nice looking shell IS going to sell VISTA copies for MS... personally, I will wait it out & see the bugs come out & be shook out, first... maybe go for it when its first service pack releases... & only then! apk

Yep, i feel the same ! Just built a HTPC my first. Love it xp run's great! Runnin MCE2005-SP2, so i had no less than 70 updates ...lol but in the end I love it. I did the winvista rc1 thing for a couple of day's. Had trouble with dual boot. MOHAAS ran like a dog. so i'll wait for a while. I do have a coupon for the MCE though havent decided on that yet?
