psu noise

Yep, capacitors is a good way to start. They make a whining noise when under load, but maybe one that's is weak has to work hard because it's bad is causing that whine. Voltage regulators also whine right? Or was it just voltage regulators and not the capacitors?

Have you confirmed it's coming straight from your PSU? Do you have a battery backup or Something?

its plugged into a power strip, one of the surge protector ones and that plugs into the wall

You are sure you check under every options in your Bios?
did, i didnt see it any where, i have the EVGA P55 sli board with the latest bios ver.


Then it may be your Motherboard...?
Inspect your board for any damage like a Mofet , capacitors etc...?

everything looked fine i didnt see any rust on mosfets like ive seen before on other peoples boards, caps. didnt look burnt or anything

That should be fine. Try plugging it straight into the wall, maybe that surge protector could be causing some unstable voltage or something.

did that same noise comes up, and now i think my hdd took a crap on me, made this loud chsattering noise like the toy teeth that you wind up and the bounce around, but it wont boot now makes that noise and i think i smell fried electronics, and my mobo doesnt detect it anymore only my 500gb that i thought was going out before but i guess not, i am on my laptop now

Damn dude, maybe the whining noise was a sign of something to go, does it still do it? Maybe a rail on the PSU is over-volting?

I get the exact same symptoms when I have my speakers or headphones plugged into the front panel, noise interference because of the cable that runs from the MB to the front panel. I'm pretty sure this is an interference deal, especially since it only happens when you move the mouse.

idk i havent touched it sense it made that noise, but while i was posting on this thread it was black screening on me and saying BOOTMNG was missing so i would have to boot from my main drive manually

i have nothing plugged into my front pannel and when i do i have my g35's plugged in and there is no problem when i had them plugged it

I understand that. My point was, it sounds like a shielding/interference problem, from where I don't know. If it was the PSU it would happen all the time. I doubt moving your mouse puts enough strain on it to cause the noise.

it does make the noise all the time, just happens to do it louder when i move my mouse

it still makes it after the hdd problem still doesnt dectect it psu still makes noise, still does BOOTMGR missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart doesnt this everytime i boot, my main drive was my 1TB my 500gb is clean

This is really puzzling bro. I would try to google for some answers. Beats me, I'll tell you that much.

Why don't you try disconnecting everything from the psu, HDD's, opticals/fans.etc. Leave nothing connected to it at all. Then jump the PSU and with only the PSU running at this point you can see if it does it. If it does then it's a faulty PSU, I'd it doesn't it's something else, or something that causes the PSU to do so.

You can try connecting one component at a time to see what is making the noise.

try this unplug everything you don't need for the computer to run like all the rams except for one unplug all your fans then start the comp and see if it still does it. If it does then leave it in that config and try using your 300 watt PSU it should be powerful enough to at least power up your comp with all unneeded things unplugged and see what happens

Your best bet is this, quoted above. Try that and you can try one component at a time to see what causes the whine.

Ok, now try to connect one component, then jump it again, and so on till you get the noise. Try your fans, HDD's, mobo, etc separately to rule out each component. If it doesn't do it then I'd be dammed!

yes it does the noise and the fan spins also, i can tell its not the fan making the noise

yea, just bend the paper clip to where two ends are sticking out find the green wire stick it in that hole and then a black wire fan should spin.

Yeah, you just jump from one connector to the other with a paper clip and you can power it on.

Bro, RMA time on the PSU buddy, if it does the noise when powering the PSU alone, it's probably that, wouldn't be surprised if it was the cause of your HDD failing too!

yea i submitted a rma earlier, trying to edit to say what you said, that it may have caused it to fail
