looking good thus far love the what they did with the alien, but still gonna be a while before we see anythign like that in game. Which is a pity because it looks like a programmers dream, get a couple character renderings and all of the suddent be able to mold them into others without waiting on additional designs.

I didn't know the 2900XT had a vapor chamber. I owned one. So much damn potential.
 
Yeah, that potential has been pushed more and more with each successive release since then. Overall power consumption has stayed the same at the high-end, but per mm heat output has increased, and really only vapor chamber tech can move heat away fast enough(well, other than water).

Slightly more power from this card, eh? And at the same time, lower operating temps and noise? Sounds good to me, if the price is right. However, I really wonder, given that slide mentioning GTX285 acoustics...is this the 480's "485" replacement?

And people bitch about AMD's naming scheme?

And yeah, take a look at the 2900XT cooler form the underside, and you can see the nipple where they filled the chamber. I have one of mine right here next to me, looks like it's filled with glue. :laugh:

Good to see you're finally releasing the GTX480 like you promised so long ago.
 
can't wait to see this card in reviews, it might actually be awesome... everything the GTX480 should have been. perhaps more.
 
i just don't understand why mfg's started making dual slot coolers that still dumped exhaust in the case when there's the easy option to blow it out the freaking back.

Even Arctic Cooling doubled back on themselves after the impressive Silencer line back in the early 2000's
 
hmm, I see a 480 V2, nice. If they have fixed the issues on the 480, and they're selling the new design on a reasonable price, I would call that good. I'm indeed tired of nvidia rebranding... I would call it a 485.
 
Hey dudes can you run 3 monitors with the 580 or do you still need 2 cards?
