Intel may be not very far away from releasing its third generation of solid state drives (SSDs), but that doesn't stop the company from updating its current "Postville" (Gen. 2) X25-M series of SSDs. The company recently listed a new 120 GB model, carrying the part number SSDSA2MH120G2K5. The drive comes in the 2.5" SATA form factor, and uses a SATA 3 Gb/s interface. It makes use of 34 nm MLC NAND flash chips, and offers read/write speeds of 250 MB/s and 70 MB/s, respectively. The TRIM command is supported. The X25-M G2 120 GB is priced at around €210.

I wish they would release a new controller already... Although nice to see the extra GB for the same price of the G1\G2.

There pretty kick ass still even with the newer controllers around.

The mofo's at Intel finally woke up and realized they need something to compete against the 120GB sandforce drives, however I think I will still be getting a sandforce drive this Christmas anyway.

Seems kinda pricey for the space.

Right now, a 120GB Onyx 2 can be had for ~160€ in Germany, and a 60GB Vertex 2 - for ca. 95€. No matter how you put it, at 210€ the Intel drive is way too overpriced. I suspect that for all practical purposes, the Sandforce drives are also faster, which makes the price even more off-scale. Well, I suppose that's the fair price of higher (?) reliability.

Yeah I'm sick and tired of those lousy Intel controllers. :D

While we're on the topic, perhaps you'll buy me one.
