NVIDIA nForce 680i SATA Problems Fixed?

After [H]ard|OCP has published an article that discusses NVIDIA's nForce 680i chipset problems, NVIDIA stated that they have a BIOS for the reference 680i motherboards design that they "believe resolves the SATA problem." EVGA and others are working with 680i motherboard owners to validate if the fix actually works for all of those folks having issues. "Believe"? Either you do, or do not. They were able to replicate the problem and said it was a driver issue. How come they do not know if they have it fixed?

as assume by most, a chipset issue that's why. If this doesn't fix the problems then a new re-vision of nvidia's chipset is in order and a lot of people are going to have to rma their boards, again. But if they didn't do it with the nforce3, nforce4 I seriously doubt that you will see it with 680i. Why did I bring of nforce3/4? It is because they had the exact same problems with hard drives. See the trend?

Side note: Maybe this is a job for the Zif socket chipset! I mean lets be real? Is solder chipsets that important?

Well it fixed it for me... but people with high ram-speed are reporting problems. I'm running my pc8500@stock (1066mhz).

Funny they said it was a driver-issue, then release a bios.. in my book that's lying.

#4, what? nf3/4 had hdd stutter/error problems too? did know that.. I thought it was only crackling sound with nf3/4..

edit: oh yeah, maxtor 10 hdd's had detection problem on nf4, but this was maxtor firmware fault.

Well it might have fixed the problem on their test systems, but they can't test all of the infinite number of systems combinations out there. Generally the rule is to never make statements that are solid in the computer world. Instead of saying "The problem is fixed" you say "We believe the problem is fixed". That way if it turns out the problem still happens, but not as much, it doesn't make you look stupid.

It is all software, the main issue in their statement was that it is NOT a hardware issue. I don't really care how it is fixed as long as it is fixed and I don't have to RMA my motherboard.

Actually it was a Maxtor firmware problem. Working well with other chipsets doesn't mean it isn't a problem with the hard drives firmware. This is seen by the fact that a Maxtor firmware update fixed the problem.

^^If memory served correctly the firmware update did not fix the problem for everyone. This was not a problem with other chipsets like Intel, Sis, VIA, etc
