x850xt vs 7600gt vs 7300gt ddr3 SLI?

Hi!
So I present to you this dilemma: to keep the x850xt or change it for 7600gt?
Or get two 7300GT ddr3?
As far as I can see, x850xt and 7600gt they are pretty close in benchies.
But 7300GT ddr3 blow them away in benchmarks.
Is SLI any good in real gaming? Last time I used SLI was back in the voodoo2 days

The big question is how much OC headroom is there with 7600gt's?
Any brand/model recommendations?

And how much mark do you get with it?
I'm having trouble finding benchies for OC'd 7600GT's.
Is using a stock cooler enough?

Well, another thought crossed my mind, why not get 2x 7300gt 128mb ddr3?
I got one for my girlfriend, and without vmod's I get it up to 550gpu 800mem for a 4880 in 3dmark 05 (venice 3200+@2.6GHz).

Now the prices in my country are:
7300gt 128mb ddr3 1.4ns = $96
7300gt 256mb ddr3 1.1ns = $145
7600gt 256mb = $190
7900gs 256mb = $272
7900gt 256mb = $400

According to these guys it would seem that 2x7300GT dd3 in SLI are comparable to an 7900GT for half the money.

Also, I think I can get more money for two lower end cards when it's time for the next upgrade.

What about the power consumption for 7300gt SLI?
Any ideas?
Blah, I wish this was simpler :)

I think this is a bit of a false reading...... at stock then I think that the benches work but a single 7900GT will clock better than 2 7300's in SLI, I had a 7900GT and was getting 10500 on 3D Mark 2005 so IMO if you overclock there maybe better options for you, if you dont, the SLi 7300's look pretty good, better still, get yourself a cheap 7900GTO, run her in excess of GTX speeds for not much more money. In the Uk if you know where to look you can pick up a GTO cheaper than some 7900GT's.

In the Voodoo days SLI was good for gaming as you probably know from experience. However Voodoo SLI has nothing to do with NVidias SLI nowadays. It's a totally different technology.

As for it's use, it's better to have one expensive card than 2 cheaper ones. Therefor SLI only makes sense with high end cards. Or of course if you want to add a second card a year later.

Um, it was late :)
What I meant was: are there any compatibility problems with games?
I remember when nVidia came out with SLI there were lots of problems, I see that most are fixed now, but googling I found ppl who hit some snags with SLI.

Anyhow (the coffee is kicking in :D), let's say for the sake of the argument that 2x7300gt ddr3=7900gt in 3dmark. Does that performance hold true in gaming? So in game XYZ, one can get 120fps with 7900GT, will 7300gt SLI get me 120fps?

At a guess....probably not, I do not think that in real world games that 2 x 7300's are gonna be a match for a 7900GT/1900GT/1950pro etc etc in any case you never get twice the power of the one card in SLi mode and you generally need to pay more for the SLi enabled motherboard, sometimes need to get an uprated power supply, IMO if you are starting from scratch, as others have said, go for the decent quality single slot solution.

Mind you, the 7300GT@stock speeds, I'm talking about is faster than 7600GS link

And all the testing I did with the 7300gt dd3 confirm it :)

Also look at the prices I can get here. 7900GT=4x7300gt

Lol I am suprised that no one has said this yet.
You cannot SLI 7300GTs.
The lowest 7 series card you can SLI is the 7600GS.

Also, please note, that a higher end card equivalent to what you would spend on 2 of a lesser card will pretty much equal the cards in SLI, plus you have an upgrading path to pursue later on.
So get the highest end card you can get.

As a side note, the 7600GT and X850 are pretty close (esp. in newer games).
Just stick with your X850 until you can see what the new mid-ranged 8 series cards can do.

Yeah it is an ambiguous question, but we are talking about similar gpu architecture here, so it is a valid question.

Nope you're wrong, totally wrong :D
Why don't you read up a bit. These are no ordinary 7300GT's.
And yes I have one here tested and so.
The question is should I get 2 more :D

I get about 6400-6600 '05 marks with mine.
BTW I got this one a year ago, labeled as x800GTO (also it was a reference card sent by ATI to a review site) :D

I knew that the guys got it wrong, so I had to flash it, and yea, now it's a normal x850xt, all 16 pipes and all :toast:

It can go up to 580/580, but had to throttle it to 540/540 as my case is getting kinda hot with 5xHDD :shadedshu . But that's another story, this mid-tower is getting kinda crowded anyway. Will fix it one with a Antec P180 or an E-sata case for HDD's.

sweet - i'm going to bench my card some more once I get my p4 OC at a comfy point.

Those Albatross 7300GTs in SLI do seem to beat the 7600gt, so I guess the question is whether or not you really need the 3.0shader. I doubt you'll see any improvement over the x850 in terms of FPS until you go to the 78/7900 range or x1950pro.

Does your SLI mb mean you can't run ati cards xfire?

I did, I started off with "at a guess, probably not" it will depend on the game of course but the key point here that you seem to be missing is that in the link you provided above it is clear to me that the 7600GT is some 40% faster than a single 7300GT in some of the benches, now 40-50% is all that your gonna get in reality for SLi so bottom line, you are not going to get a great deal of improvement with your 2 7300GT's over a single 7600GT, yes granted some improvement, now apart from SM3, the 850XT actually beats the 7600GT in over half the benches run in a review from a year back, I will be happy to dig it out for you when I am at home, so why would you want to change the 850 for the 7300's?.....there certainly is no "bang for buck" there, just my opinion of course. By the way, just for the record, I had a HIS 850XT IceQ Turbo clocked at 610/640 and got 7300 in 3D Mark 2005!

Software Win 7 x64
sweet - i'm going to bench my card some more once I get my p4 OC at a comfy point.

Those Albatross 7300GTs in SLI do seem to beat the 7600gt, so I guess the question is whether or not you really need the 3.0shader. I doubt you'll see any improvement over the x850 in terms of FPS until you go to the 78/7900 range or x1950pro.
These are Galaxy 7300GT ddr3 :)
I'm getting 4800 '05 marks with just one. But today I hope I'll go me a multimeter and volt-mod it. I've seen ppl get over 7000 '05 marks with these.
Will keep you posted about the volt-mod :)

Does your SLI mb mean you can't run ati cards xfire?

Yup, NF4 here. But I don't mind, if it weren't for these exceptional 7300GT's, I wouldn't think about it.

Sounds like a fun project to me. It may not be optimal but who cares?

I don't see how a 7300GT beats a 7600GT (or GS) but then again, maybe I just don't know Nvidia. :) :) Anywho, if you can get 2 7300GT 256MB DDR3 and run SLI, sounds like a winner to me.
