Scythe Announces eBook/Tablet Holder

Japanese cooling specialist Scythe EU GmbH hereby announces a brand-new product the constantly growing tablet and e-book market. By introducing this accessory, Scythe expands its product portfolio and enters this new market. High quality steel combined with an aluminum-look finishing is used to give the Scythe e-Book Holder a stylish modern design as well as sufficient weight which allow comfortable use of the mounted device. To further stabilize the e-Book Holder for even slippery grounds, rubber feet are implemented on the bottom side. Hence makes the Scythe e-Book Holder a flexible, comfortable as well as reliable solution for nowadays e-Books and Tablets.

Thanks to the patent pending mounting mechanism users are able to rotate their e-Book or Tablet-PC by up to 360°. In order to adjust the view angle to every user's convenience it is possible to move the e-Book Holder for- and backwards by up to 330. It is furthermore equipped with mounting grips which can be adjusted stepless and allow mounting of various on-market e-Books and Tablet-PCs such as the Apple iPad. Attached mounting grips can be moved horizontal as well as vertical from 7.28 to 9.84 inch respective 185 to 250 mm.



If required, it is possible to detach the mounting fixture from the e-Book Holder and attach it to common 3.94 inch (100 mm) VESA mounting systems. Overall design is optimized to user friendly (e.g. USB or charging) cable connections of the mounted devices.

First we buy a tablet that's more expensive, less useful and less performant than a notebook.

Then, we buy lots of peripherals for that same tablet, so that it looks and works more like a notebook.


Makes perfect sense.

Less useful than a notebook? Lets say you're a real estete agent. Or anything where you work "in the field". Now lets say a customer wants you to look something up that requiers an internet connection. With this, you just press a few buttons and you're there. You can do it with a smartphone, but try to look at large excel documents or PDF's on a smartphone. Or websites where you have to fill out forms. Or any website for that matter.

Now imagine doing the same thing with a notebook. Tablets are way more convinent in their right environment.

Also, there are cheap tablets. You can get them here (if you don't count the €80 ones you can get on Ebay) for about €200.

I've dreamt of these things since the 90's. Bring them on!

EDIT: And just see what'll happen when AMD brings out CPU+GPU's for these things.

There are netbooks, notebooks and subnotebooks with 3G modules. There are tiny USB 3G modules. There are 3G smartphones with wifi tethering.

Now imagine doing the same thing with a notebook. Tablets are way more convinent in their right environment.

Not in my opinion. Convertible laptops maybe, but overpriced tables make no sense to me at all.

Also, there are cheap tablets. You can get them here (if you don't count the €80 ones you can get on Ebay) for about €200.

€200, now we're talking. Lower price in exchange for lower functionality, I like that.
Unfortunately, the only tablets you get for €200 in Europe are chinese tables with overclocked ARM11 chinese SoCs with horrible performance, resistive touchscreens and lowest-possible build quality.
There are now some i.MX515 (Cortex A8) equipped tablets for a little over 200€, but they still sport the same resistive touchscreens and whacky display ratios (800*600, which Android deals with pain and horror)...


North-americans now have that nook color for ~200€, and that sounds awesome, but we don't..

I'll still take my netbook/sub-notebook.
I can't wait to get my hands in a handheld with a Fusion APU, though.
But we'll have to wait until ~2013 for that, at least.

Yeah well it's not like I would actually by something like the iPad or that .. Samsung one. I agree that it's too much money, but I can understand why there's a market for them.

And I too would rather take a smaller notebook, but as I said, I think there are people that actually benefit from them.

You missed the point, his point was why pay all this money for less overall functionality, and a higher cost, an atom powered netbook, will wipe the floor with an iPad. Now just because it may do 1 or 2 things better doesn't make it better, nor does it make it better because Steve Jobs said so.

herp derp. Why pay for a puny portable computer when you can get a much better desktop + UPS for the same money? Why is a smartphone more expensive than a full-blown computer? Why do people buy weak routers when they can use an old second hand PC and install the vastly more powerful pfSense on it? You know the answer, you just don't want to admit it.
