No, you can't just pop another drive in. You would have to flash the firmware on it after extracting the old key from the broken drive. BTW, 4 red LEDs is usually a problem with the AV cable.

PS: are you sure you haven't purchased a console that someone has attempted to 'flash' and failed?

What you do is find a NEW drive with the same model number as your old one and once it gets there, you take out the mainboard of your old drive and install in the new one. thats how i fixed my broken DVD drive while in iraq

I have an extra Xbox 360 drive laying around at home but not sure what make and model it is. I can get it out and let you know tomorrow what it is.

It worked but the Xbox 360 I had RROD'd for the last time.

Yeah, if it's the exact same model of drive, you can switch the mainboard out :D

What do you mean, no eject button? LOL. Do you mean on the actual console, or it's missing the little blue button on the DVDROM? You may just need a new eject button from the actual consoles shell :D

There is a Chrome button piece that has a long piece of plastic that hits the button inside the optical drive.

Yeah, the DVDROM doesn't have a real button as such. The actual eject button is on the console. But surely yours came with one?

^ console eject buttons (which are part of the casing)

^ the dvdrom eject button is inside the small black hole on the bottom left.
