GeForce GTX 590 Key Features Revealed

Should be a good card, it more likely will beat out a 6990 without much of an issue. Price will probably be higher though.

at what resolution ?
1920x1200 with AA ?
seriously 3gb of memory is little! they need to load it up with 6gb, which is 1 gb more than they need per gpu.
their design is so highly ineffective...
I can't see they're winning against amd in at this power envelope.... not in profits atleast. those die's are frigging huge!

they'll throw you out for overloading the circuit breaker

THIS.

When I read the line about throwing you out due to performance...I was thinking more along these lines and they'd throw your ass out for the 2nd mortgage they need on their house to supply the juice everytime you come over or to upgrade the electric grid in the local area...

It says 3 GB so it has 48 rops and 384 bits memory. Also it's GF110 based so it has 2x64 TMU.

ah I missed the memory amount.

so we are talking dual full blown 580 cores then. Should offer quite a bit of bang, here's hoping for not too much buck.

I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere (if it has, please delete or disregard this post), but one of the leading e-tailers in Sweden (Dustin.se) last week accidentally published the GTX 590 - with its supposed price. First off, they pulled the price and product page and later went on to deny that the information was accurate.

Anyway, the (ASUS) GTX 590 was priced at 7 395 SEK (w/ 25% VAT) = ~1 167 USD or ~934 USD w/o VAT. In comparison, at the same e-tailer, the (ASUS) HD 6990 is priced at 6 299 SEK (w/ 25% VAT) = ~995 USD or ~796 w/o VAT.

Again, the price may not be final and these are Swedish prices from the same e-tailer. Just thought I'd share since there was some speculation on price in this thread. :toast:

I hope it smells as good as the GTX295, that nutty electronic and rubber fragre was divine...

365W is just about 0.5 horsepower..

:shadedshu

I really think this will be one of the first times that AMD and nVidia have nearly equal average performance. They both did the same thing here, took two of their high end GPUs and stuck them together. Then they downclocked to the TDP that two 8-pin cables could provide.

Given that the 580 and 6970 are pretty close on Performance per Watt for these two single GPUs I think we'll end up at about the same performance because they're both trying to keep under 375 watts.

(personally, I think AMD *could* come out on top because the 6970 does have slightly better performance per watt than the 580. But I think the end result will actually come down more to binning than anything else)

The perf will be on par 5% +/-, that means you won't know which card you're playing with, unless you're playing a nvidia or amd sponsored game.

Can't afford it. Don't see any reason to have it, but I would love to have one. It will be interesting to see in action for sure.

hey...quit copying me i said that earlier :D

I obviously agree with you and think you are quite smart.

yeah and that sucks !

I will not buy it if is 900 bills damn it !

If this runs under 600MHz core, then this product is a friggin waste of silicon. Why put it out there if you can achieve similar performance with a pair of 560s@900MHz and in the same power envelope no less. Unless of course your main purpose is to greatly stretch your profit margins and rip off your customers?

I bet this is also one of the reason EVGA and Galaxy put 460 cores in their dual solutions - they were simply denied to use proper 560s because they would step all over the 590's heels at almost half the price...

I hope I'm wrong but things are starting to smell very fishy...

A pair of 560s OCed:

"Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 298 Watts"

A 6990:

Notice how they both produce 102fps@19x12 in BC2. The only reason the 560 fall back at 25x16 is because of their 1GB memory buffer.

Edit: I'd use W1z's charts but he doesn't seem to have an overclocked sli review.

Horse power is not measured in watts. And if this was some kind of parallel description....your doing it wrong.

no its not, however if you converted kilowatts to horse power (375watts) ... guess what, you get 0.469 hp, yes you can convert watts to horse power, and vice versa.

How much advantage GTX 590 can do from HD 6990?

Yes it is. Killowatts is the METRIC measure of power, one killowatt=1000 watts and 1HP = 0.7456kW

It would appear that way, yes.
Not sure I'm liking the whole idea of venting of heat into the case though :/

With any modern case, venting the heat into the chassis is nothing to worry about. As long as you have decent airflow, and a fan up top you're good to go.

Actually no.
Ati and nVidia have very close average performance before.
It is only during the Geforce 8 era that nVidia pulled ahead because ATi fucked up quite badly with their HD2k series.

the GTX580/and 570 has the same Dies and they are doing pretty will. the GTX580 is comparable to the HD5970. just because the Die's are huge means practically nothing other then they cost more to produce.

great to see theyve opted for the maximum configuration of th GF110 cores, now its all up to clockspeeds :D

6 months ago nobody would have guessed Nvidia could pull this off with the state GF100 was in, a single HOT hungry GPU with 480 SP's, this beast packs 1024 and yes it will consume more power but really thats a feat unto itself.

But they are going to clock it at 600Mhz......:(, that's even less than a dual 480/570 perf..
