Display major ViewSonic announced three new monitors in Europe, the 19" VA1948m-LED, 21.5" VA2248-LED and 23.6" VA2448-LED. The VA1948m-LED features 16:10 aspect ratio, with native resolution of 1440x900 pixels; while the VA2248-LED and VA2448-LED are 16:9 full-HD monitors (1920x1080 pixels native resolution). All three feature LED-backlit panels with dynamic contrast ratios of 10,000,000:1, and 5 ms GTG response time. Available now, the VA1948m-LED, VA2248-LED, and VA2448-LED are priced at €119, €145, and €179.

Is this yet another case of a company claiming that it has LED monitors, when in actual fact they're just LCDs with LED backlights?
 
Yes they are just LED backlit TFT panel.

But I still think they are great monitors for their price.

That's what LED monitors and TVs are all about, aren't they? LCD as any other with LED backlight instead of the CCFL. Is there something else I'm not aware of? I thought LCD was the only display type used for monitors. Please answer, it's always good to know something new. \m/

LED Displays are actually build with LEDs as the actual sub-pixels and requires no back-lit.
 
pretty sure the first poster is refering to OLED display, which cost significantly more than common display types in use today. however, his comment is borderline trolling, because I'm fairly sure he knows that this isnt an OLED display to begin with, because OLED cannot be associated with "value" which is in fact part of the headline.

In short, OLED could not be had for 100 euros.

My initial thought after seeing the thread title was "Cool, somebody's making cheap LED monitors. Maybe I'll grab one." then I was disappointed by what is actually a manufacturer trying to make their product look better by saying it's LED when it's actually only LED backlit. Which a lot of them seem to be doing.

I wasn't trolling. I was disapointed.

It is commonplace for an LED Backlit monitor to be referred to as an LED monitor. OLED is a completely different story and is commonly referred to as OLED.

They are two completely different things.
 
Sadly it's become a norm to call LED-backlit LCD displays as "LED". Not just with monitors and notebook displays, but even with TVs.

But don't worry, the actual LED panels won't be called "LED" but "OLED" (standard organic LED) or "AMOLED" (Samsung's spin), so I don't expect confusion in the future.

Actually, Vanilla LED panels have existed for decades and are literally made of small LEDs.

Unfortunately, they're only good for large billboards, because the dot pitch is still incredibly high.
 
Just as I thought. It surprises me that someone in TPU wouldn't know that "true" LED monitors are called OLED; ever since manufacturers started selling displays with LED backlight they called them LED monitors/TVs, it's not like they're fooling people with this release. Thanks for answering. \m/

As for the news, I wish this had an VA or IPS panel, since I've only seen Acer and Viewsonic monitors for sale in Mexico. But still, I'd rather buy an LG from an american store.

OLED isn't exactly the same thing either ;)
There are actual LED monitors which are made of individual LEDs, those are around for ages.
 
I think QLED is closer to being a led display than OLED.

Piss off, troll. I know the difference. I just take umbrage with companies doing this so they can get people who don't know what they're doing to buy them and think they have a snazzy OLED TV.

I can't think of a single person on earth who bought a TV marketed as "LED" and went home and bragged about buying an "OLED" TV. 99% of consumers probably don't even know what OLED is so how can they make that assumption?

OK. You may know the difference (I never said otherwise), but you seem to ignore that LCD-LED monitors and TVs have always been called simply LED. If people want an OLED monitor, they'll look for an "OLED monitor", because that's what they're called in the market. I and many people don't expect a monitor advertised as LED to be an OLED, QLED or a pure LED like Zubasa (By the way, please give me an example) said, because we know LED is what the manufacturers call their LCD displays with LED backlight. I would like you to give me an example of a monitor that you deem is worth being claimed as LED, to see if companies are truly fooling the consumers like you say. And please, chill.:shadedshu
