AMD Showcases its First 28 nm GPU

I would bet this is going in an APU, hence the tiny heatsink.

I hope so, they promised us space stations and flying cars by now, and if I cant have those I want a tablet that can do what my PC does and includes something like the NIA since carrying a controller is oldschool, and fingers still smudge the touchscreen goodness.

I'll get right on it sir . :respect:

I have an opinion and I expressed it what is your problem ? Do you have more news to add about this new chip ? NO ? I thought so . Good Day !

Dont get butthurt if someone pointed out how childish that opinion is ;) .

sorry for the offtopic guys, reading comments these days is very painful.

Ok so AMD is on track on getting there 28nm mobile GPU ready ahead of nVidia ( Or so they say they are ) . There is NOTHING more than THAT ! This is all we get ? WTH ? I mean come on all this PR crap is Pouring out of AMD with no substance . I feel like I am eating Chines food here , I have to keep eating because I am never full ! No wonder they always tell me to leave the ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET !

What news ?
Exactly not much news to glean out, other than a (purportedly) working Southern Island chip that could be a mainstream segment GPU, or lower that gave Dirt3 Dx11 results. So allegedly “it’s Alive”! And who exactly is the guy having a bad hair day, is he an AMD engineer?

I’d like to see it as a "pipe cleaner" SKU, in 4-5 weeks, but that just optimistic me.

1) This is a discrete card.
2) What is up with all the hate from AMD. They're making progress and you all just boo them? Too many Intel fanboys from what I see.
3) Try reading the article. It has information you all aren't seeing. Just looking at a picture does NOTHING if you don't understand what you're looking at. Three heatsinks there. Top left is the GPU, top right is the CPU or APU, little black thing in the middle is the FCH. Learn your hardware before talking trash about everything you see, yet don't understand.

Learn your hardware, this is a GPU not a CPU. You must be talking about NVIDIA fanboys!:D

I never run anything but ATI (now AMD) g-cards, but I don't really see where this was new worthy or worth posting at all.

Fake
What's in that box under the TFT?
Why is fraps not running?
Why did they reduce the size of the photo and force "quality=75"?
This photo was taken without flash... you can tell from illumination and incumbent light
It's indoors meaning a shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/125
The mini fans do 2000-3000RPM=30 to 50 turns per second=between a quarter and a full turn of that fan during shutter open time.
But no, fans look "still"
These fans are not moving, or going very very slowly = they are NOT running Dirt 3 on this CPU/GPU setup
Why is the BIOS chip missing?
THERE IS NO HDD/SSD!
Or is the SATA/microSATA (looks like mobile setup) UNDERNEATH? If underneath, I wonder what else might be there!

LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE!

After these FAIL PR stunts by AMD over the last two days, I have taken a decision to NOT buy an AMD CPU or an AMD/ATI GPU next time round. Shame, because you just pushed a fence sitter into the Intel and nV camps with all your nonsense!

LOL ! Now I was also wondering why the fans looked like they were not turning . LOL

Man glad you said this if I said all this I would be labeled a FANBOY and run out of the tread ! Much like the other thread on AMD's world record .
What I would like to know is what is it with AMD lately , All this much to do about NOTHING is a real turn off . I will be keeping my eyes open though I am in need of a good laptop and well I do not think this will be out in time much like the BD chip will not be out when I go to buy a new system ! Week AMD really week .

In all fairness how much of the "news" posted about AMD lately came from them? Not much. Do you see something here indicating a true AMD PR release?

I don't know if it's a fake. In the photo with the dude in it the fan on the copper heatsink appears to be spinning. Maybe the system was off for the other photos?

It's hard to tell... so where are the original photos? Why did they shrink them? Then why did they set jpg quality to be so low? (read EXIF and JPG comments with irfanview of those pictures).

It's hard to tell on the GPU, but it is clear on the CPU... now THAT fan isn't moving and therefore is NOT running Dirt 3. Perhaps a screenshot. But I would wager the WHOLE SETUP it fake.

Look, that guy has closed some "non-office" curtains. The TFT is consumer not business. The desk he is sitting at isn't a desk but an IKEA (or similar) sideboard, and not an office desk or a technology workbench. He hasn't even ironed his shirt.

admit it......

After all that gleemed from 1 photo......admit it ......your Batman!!!

Looking at them photos I can see that there is a bios chip missing the desk is NOT an office desk . Them are drapes NOT blinds ( 99.99% of all businesses use them in offices ) , His shirt should have some kind of BADGE on it saying AMD or ATI or some thing like that and yeah Iron it pal !
The laptop screen is not on WHY ? Wouldn't it be a better sell if the screen on the laptop was working as well ? This just seems way FAKED to me ! What a JOKE ! If not is AMD giving out there new stuff to any one ? If so why NOT give me a shot at it then ?

Looks like a nice wallpaper of Dirt 3. In that last image it looks like the fans aren't even turning. I know some cameras have this effect with fans while others show em blurred so you know they're spinning so its hard to tell for sure if its working. you don't give us a still image to show how a gpu performs. a 10sec 360p video just to show the system was actually running would be nice.

whether its fast or not, at least they have 28nm parts that are working, if that's really a 28nm gpu

Looking at the monitor behind him it looks nice, and considering the size of the GPU given the size of the memory chips on the card, and the space needed for traces, the size of the cooler, that looks nice.

Pinky nail size GPU that can run modern games.

My only other question is, whats under the other sink?

the one with the blower is a mobile cpu. the black heatsink is on a chipset.

maybe you should look at pic 3 :slap:

its all about timing

We're talking AMD here, not Intel...

nor Nvidiot

And how many mobile platforms do you see with a full desktop PCI-E x1 slot(and traces for a second)?:wtf:

obviously the mobility market model.

And I want 1x HD7770 :) Decent enough performance with low TDP.

+1 each to lionheart and faramir, 7970 would be perfect for Xmas 2011.

Come on Santa "AMD/ATI" , bring me a dear, make my laptop the cutest you have ever HD7970 seen ....... LOL

hummm, i just want that board setup he has...anyone know where to find one??

You cant buy it. Its a testing and diagnostic kit used by manufacturers. The small screen that is off shows all the diagnostic info etc, but obviously they dont want anyone to see that so they turned it off.

Anyway thanks for posting TPU, with the cards coming out in a couple of months they must be close to final samples, so it makes sense. It takes a year or so to develop a new card from scratch so its no surprise they have a few samples undergoing testing at this point.

So many options for the upcoming upgrade and holiday season.
Bulldozer and Ivy Bridge, Radeon HD 7xxx and maybe the new nVidia 6xx series.
