XFX Intros New Kilowatt PSU Models Under ProSeries

XFX' line of high-grade power supplies targeting gaming PC builds, ProSeries, got an overhaul with three zesty new kilowatt models, including 1000W, 1050W, and 1250W. Among these, the 1050W and 1250W models bear 80 Plus Gold certification, while the 1000W 80 Plus Platinum. The three feature completely modular cabling including with essential cables such as 24-pin ATX, and CPU power. The units feature XFX' signature body design, which looks like a futuristic weapons crate.

The PSUs feature what XFX calls SolidLink technology. Each of the cable connectors are soldered straight to the main PCB, and not connected through wires. This works to minimize energy loss. All three feature a single 12V rail design, which ensures efficient power distribution. Other regulars include active PFC, and active protection against over voltage, over current, overheat, and short-circuit. The units are cooled by a large 135 mm fan, backed by an active fan control that prioritizes silence. The three are backed by 5 year warranty by XFX. Pricing and availability are not known.

a bit stupid ?.. Like hell the whole for the fan is not as large as the fan and looks like it was made for a 120mm fan then there's the stupid flt black fan gaurd part witch will block 30% ? of the air flow..

Ah sorry. Was comparing it to my own setup. Installing that PSU in my case would have the PSU suck the air from (or exhaust it to) the inside of the case. My case has the PSU in the bottom with an opening+grill beneath it for the airflow. Guess you can just install it upside down

Love the marketing part about solid connections vs wires, obviously they're missing the point as they've made modular ATX cables which simply just sucks. And even so, it's not as if it's an exclusive feature to XFX, but hey...

it's actually some thing i like about it just not for what they say. My reason is for modding safer and who who puts them together all so cleaner design as it has less wires every were which is some thing they SHOULD of said in the marketing.

Exactly, no extra wires in the PSU = better airflow through the unit. However, now you have the problem of someone forcing the connector in too hard and possibly breaking a solder joint on the PCB.

The 1000W unit in the pictures there look suspiciously like the recently introduced SeaSonic SS-1000XP, which is also a 80 Plus Platinum unit. The same layout of the individual power connectors at the back, the same switch at the back for switching the fan mode, even the same shaped sticker around that switch. I bet XFX is only relabeling a SeaSonic unit here using a custom made case...

...not that this is bad, the SS-1000XP from SeaSonic is a very good PSU, I just bought one myself recently. I'm just asking why someone will buy a relabeled PSU (assuming a price premium) if he can buy the original unit instead?!

I'd assume a price premium for the Seasonic model

Some people also prefer XFX's support. And they could be very SIMILAR doesn't mean they are EXACTLY the same. Perhaps Seasonic has a few perks or vice-versa

looks again at the pics and yes good point there as it don't look like the casing supports any pressure from those connections.

As long as you not plugging them in and out all the time should be ok .

Well as to modular most of the connectors up till lately have been trash and the largest resistance. Can't say what these are or how good, but hopefully there sturdy and tight tolerances. My problem is did they make the 24-pin and 8-pin mobo harness modular also?

While can anyone explain the switch and yellow sticker there on the side where the cables plug in? Found on the German XFX site they talk about "Hybrid mode when activated, allows your fan to stay off when your computer is idle but turns on automatically when the PSU needs it."

As xtremesv already mentions, availability plays a factor.

There are XFX Pro CORE (based on the S12D) and Black (based on the M12D) editions here, but barely any of the PSUs they're based on.

All of XFX's PSUs are ODMed by Seasonic, and most of them are cheaper than Seasonic's self-branded equivalents. The fact that these are labeled as 80+ Gold probably means that they will be selling much cheaper than the SS-1000XP while still performing the same.

The 1000W PSU is also 80PLUS Platinum. It's the 1050W and 1250W PSUs that are 80PLUS Gold. I would guess those would be the new, higher-wattage X-Series PSUs from Seasonic (which right now only maxes out at 850W).

Yeah, they're pretty much the same thing as the Platinum though. Just with higher capacity and lower efficiency. Like how Enermax made Galaxy Evo out of Revo 85+.

Since you mentioned Enermax, the Platimax is a Max Revo with 80PLUS Platinum instead of 80PLUS Gold.

Obviously. That and the Platypus doesn't have much over these units... lol, despite being a tweaked MaxRevo to improve regulation. In fact, 850W and lower Platimax units are efficiency tweaked Modu 87+ units. Those aren't even MaxRevo.

That said, HCP-1200 is still the king. It has superior Transient response, is more robust built and better price/performance than the SeaSonic's.

Love seeing all the platinum psus coming out. Thinking of snatching one of Enermax's platiinum PSUs, but hell, XFX looks enticing.
