Crucial Releases Firmware Update for M4 SSDs, Fixes BSOD Issues

Over last weekend, Crucial released a new firmware update for its M4 series SSDs, which aims to fix several blue screen of death (BSOD) issues that users are facing. Crucial's investigation into the BSOD complaints revealed that a bug in the older firmware caused the drives to become unstable after 5,184 hours of operation. After that, every hour the previously-rock-stable drives cause BSODs. The firmware update only applies to drives connected to SATA hosts, and not SAS expanders. Crucial is still working on a firmware update for drives connected via SAS expanders.

I had to switch it to SATA 3 and disable both SATA 6 controllers on my P8P67 EVO to get it to work.

I jsut flashed away, didn't change anything in my rig.


Having that issue is due to board design and the BIOS used for the drive controllers, from what the update explained...they did mention about having to make sure the drive was identified properly, but i flashed anyway.

Are we not supposed to roll back to IDE before updating the firmware or does it still work in AHCI mode?

worked for me in ACHI, i guess. I mean, the drive is working, says it has the new firmware, etc...i didn't know anything about changing drive controller, or removing drives...

Weird all their previous update used to be simple setup.exe throught Windows and now it's a damn boot cd... also who the hell ran their SSD for over 5100 houres already?! That's over 30 weeks, the M4 maybe doesn't even exist since more than 40 weeks. I keep having BSOD 1 time on 5 when I wake up from sleep since the 0007 "second" firmware from them. I should have stayed with 1.0

I still am on 1.0 lol, I guessed as mine is a SATA 2 contriller on my mainboard I would really get much from flashing.
