Kingston To Cut Prices of NAND Flash-Based Products

Memory industry major Kingston is working towards reducing prices of its products that are based on NAND flash memory. This includes a large chunk of Kingston's product portfolio, as the only products excluded would be DRAM. NAND flash-based products include memory cards, USB flash drives, and SSDs. Kingston will reportedly cut prices by as much as 15 percent. Responding to a DigiTimes report, Kingston said that it is adjusting its NAND flash product pricing to coordinate with the rest of the industry to shift towards more advanced processes, and that it wants to enhance its presence in the NAND flash market. In other words, Kingston is clearing its inventory to make way for newer, more advanced technology.

I think a 15% price cut across the board could be almost enough to make Kingston sort of relevant in the SSD market, after a fashion. Now they just have to work on their mediocre performance, shoddy reliability, and confusing nomenclature.

the thing about flash memory is the pricing is retarded. you can pick up a 16Gb Micro SD for under £10 on most days, but 32Gbs are like £27-30+ Maybe on a good day if they got a deal going you can get it for £22

The thing with flash memory is the different "speed classes", class 1/2/3/4 so on.... I'd like a class10 16g/32g for my mobile but price's are between $50CAD - $80CAD. I have 16g on board but i'd rather have removable storage keeping the onboard clean + clear Just have to wait and see how the cookie crumble's

Im am well aware of the classes. a 32Gb Class 4 Micro SD costs between £27-30 unless theres so sort of special offer going on and you can get it cheap.

A class 10 goes for a very similar price - you pay an extra £5-10 more at the most depending how much the class 4 is. (Class 10 is generally between £30-45 and sometimes more)

there was an offer on play.com doing 32Gb for £15 which is just exceptional value for money. I didnt buy it because for some reason my online bank was still stuck on the last transaction i made about 2 weeks ago and still hadnt updated the statement/balance and i had no idea how much money i had left so I didnt bother.
