Google is going to monetize its ocean of data storage and bandwidth by starting a new service that will rival the likes of DropBox. Called Google Drive, the service could allow people to make use of their G-Mail storage quota (like G-Mail Drive once did) for free, and probably offer additional storage at a cost. According to Wall Street Journal, the service is expected to be launched "soon" (in the next few weeks or months). To compete with other similar service providers, Google could come up with attractive prices. Unlike services such as MegaUpload, Google Drive would be strictly personal storage. The Drive service will be inter-twined with Google Docs, and facilitate better remote collaboration between co-workers.

cheers for the heads up, i paid £2 for 20GB storage on google docs and it lets you store any type of file so the only difference from the current model is going to be an in house google storage uploader/syncer

They still cannot fix 6 years old 96*96 google contact picture size problem... they said they upped it to 256*256 in ICS as addon, I lol to see it on 720p screen...

Gdrive would be nice... it seems they are already late as dropbox and box came in to to dig their cemet... ahem pardon... play in their sandbox :D

Yay, I can't wait for this! Been sick of dropbox for my stuff and wish I had an easier way to pull stuff to my Android.

Yeah I've used that. It's a decent product. I just love the way Google integrates everything though :)

Cannot wait! Google is becoming Apple......but free.

About freakin time. I'm using Microsoft Skydrive for hosting purposes but they ruined its menus sometime ago and you cannot link directly to files. It always shows the main folder and just highlights the file. Which sucks for purposes where you need to point out just 1 specific file. In my case stuff that i make and then share on my blog. Google Docs are a bit clumsy but if they make the drive thingie with sharing i'd be happy.
