Optical disc drive major Lite-On opined that its SSD sales will see huge growth in 2012. The company is not new to SSDs, as it entered the SSD business about three years ago, yet it is not a major player. In 2011, the SSD business generated about NT$1 billion (US $33.9 million) in revenues for the company, which the company expects will jump 600~700% (NT$6-7 billion) in 2012. Tablets and Ultrabooks, according to Lite-On, will be the prime-movers of this growth.

I feel sorry for Lite-on,

They are like a hungry stray dog outside a butcher shop staring at all the sausages and slabs of meat hoping someone will take pitty and throw it some scraps.

Sure theres plenty of people buying SSD's given how high HDD prices are....but just not their SSD's. OCZ, Corsair and Crucial are just too strong in the force.

Plus people usually associate Lite-On as a lesser brand/manufacturer when they are probably the same as Foxconn.

Lite-on make loads of stuff for OEMs just like Foxconn.

You do realize that one of the three companies you listed as what people are buying are products manufactured by LiteON? Don't let your preception of a company steer you wrong, LiteON is a big player in this market.

LiteOn has always been huge in optical drives too.

If you are talking about Corsair, that was 'leaked' information - ontop of that LiteOn asked the guy who leaked it to take the info down which he did. but that doesnt prove that LiteOn makes SSDs for Corsair but it promotes speculation. no one knows if they do or dont.

However they are making SSDs for Intel and Toshiba.

:EDIT:

Infact....Look at the pic, It looks like an Intel drive

There are only a handful of places where SSDs are manufactured. If you have a SMT line tooled for SSDs then you are a player. It's not like people have them setup in their basements.

Besides, the new Plextor M3 is the fastest SSD on the market. LiteON owns Plextor and makes the drive.
