I think I should just start infracting people that use the words "fanboy" and "fail". That would clean things up nicely. I have no opinion on this card until it's seen in action and benchmarks are running.

Don't give in to the hate people. ;)

That is what I always say, Wait and see.

They can say whatever it will be better blahblah, but no benchmark, so until there, we can'T say it will outperform the other ...:pimp:

Well I'm as chuffed as a paedo in a playground. Finally I'll get to see what the GK104 can do and then hopefully buy a nice new card and bang a block on it. I actually hope the GK104 isn't super because then I'd have to wait for another w/b to appear to cover it.

Nah, me wants a GK104 to be slightly better than 7970 but cheaper so the 7970 price goes down. I have my w/b all lined up.....

Come on NV, be mediocre. I want to finsh my loop.

And to echo some other guys here, the level of insults in this thread is a fucking disgrace. :shadedshu

Well given the fact there memory bus is lower (256bit:love:84bit) they defiantly need the high speed GDDR5 but at 6000mhz I dont see that helping lower the price and will hinder overclocking I would think.

And 700+mhz core isnt to impressive either

Im sure you will be pleased with a couple of GTX570, a whole 1280MB for 5760X1080

I have GTX580s in SLI, sporting only a couple hundred more MBs of RAM than the 570, and have no problems whatsoever playing at 5760x1080 in 3D surround for any game that's out there at the moment, (even using high resolution texture packs for Skyrim and Crysis 2) actually I find the experience quite enjoyable.

Sure more VRAM might give you the false sense that your video card is future proof, but the thing is, by the time you really need that extra buffer, chances are you'll be bottlenecked by an outdated GPU.

That's just my two cents, peace :)

I'm very sceptical of these specs and 6000 Mhz GDDR5 is the one i doubt the most, but as for really needing that much BW I don't agree. Look at the GTX560 Ti vs. GTX285, 128 GB/s vs 160 GB/s. The GTX285 has 25% higher BW but the 560 Ti is 40% faster.

Now the GTX580 has 192 GB/s so on a similar situation to the one above, GK104 could be ok with 160 GB/s (5 Ghz) and be able to outperform it by 25% with relative ease. I'm not taking it as granted, but this behavior has been going for ages in both Nvidia and AMD.

I'd just be skeptical that NVIDIA finally un-broke their memory controller after so long, though it would certainly help them.

You misunderstand my point. Yes, one shouldn't pick a videocard by its name. But many people do, and that's what makes the prevalent naming systems a bad thing - they deliberately mislead all but the best informed customers.

Additionally, when their naming systems are retarded, what does that say about them? Do I really want to purchase a 3 billion transistor £400 GPU from a company that can't devise a functional, logical naming system? It doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Both naming systems are f'd up, and have been for a long while, got over it.

It doesn't take the "best informed" to ignore names, it only takes the marginally informed. The ones buying by name are the completely un-informed, those are the only ones "fooled" by the naming schemes. Anyone that does 5 minutes of research, even if they know nothing of video cards or PC hardware, can make an informed enough decision to not be fooled by names. And anyone that doesn't even bother to do 5 minutes of research before buying a $100+ piece of hardware deserves whatever they get, and will probably be happy with whatever they get too...

But in the end, naming this the GTX680 makes sense, if it really does outperform the HD7870 and they are holding back GK100 until AMD releases their next "generation".

like AMD Faildozer??i hope this not happend- nvidia is not like AMD fail producer- nvidia every when do its job well - in 5870 dx11 is like joke - gtx480 does com to fix it - now GK104 come to defeat Tahiti and GK100 come to exterminate any thing;)

i am not an AMD fun guy i am performance fun guy, agree with u about AMD faildozer CPU's cuz AMD already do crappy cpu's from first phenom release, nothing like athelon X2 times come again from AMD, but about graphic cards u should don't forget it's made by ATI, and u right 5870 is crappy but GTX480 is worst like shit, i don't know u the point to buy an high end graphic card can run with max clock for 5 min with a bit hot room temp and use almost double power of u call it a joke the 5870.
maybe if u say GTX 580 i will agree with u, and i hope they not fail with new series for sure.

You mean 7970? The naming scheme is alright, 90% of the users don't know that under the hood there's a GK104 (performance chip) or whatever. Based on the fact that it will be called GTX680, the card will be faster than the 7970, I have no doubt about it. By how much? We'll have to see.

This must be one of the most mysterious GPU launches ever. If it's true that on Monday, March 12 we will have reviews with availability on 23rd then it's less than a week and we don't have one credible leak regarding the performance and also I'm skeptical at these specs and others that float around the web.

The 7970 and the GTX 680 will be DX11 and will fill in the gaps till windows 8 is released which is DX12 based, So there no need to guess AMD will release a new line up with a following 8970 Codenamed "Tenerife" and Nvidia will release there GTX 780 which every one knows is coming.

Windows 8 is DX11.1. That's why the new generation cards are DX11.1.
Whatever and whenever DX12 is released, it's not with the Windows 8 rollout.

Enjoy.
