BAFTA recognised Portal 2 as the Best Game in its 2012 Video Games Awards. The smash-hit from Valve, also went on to win Best Design, and Best Story. Battlefield 3, on the other hand, went on to win Best Online Multiplayer, Best Audio Achievement, and GAME Award of 2011. Batman: Arkham City bagged Best Action, and Best Performer (Mark Hamill, who voiced The Joker). Portal 2 has been a centerpiece at Video Game achievement awards this year.

Portal 2 getting best story is a little surprising.

Currently playing Batman Arkham City.. quite engaging imo for an action game.

Portal 2 is well deserved to be a Bafta winner.

I agree, Portal 2 is a great game, but I always viewed it as a puzzle game wrapped in an interesting narrative to keep you entertained as you progress thought the puzzle levels.
Not a "story-driven" game, which is why the Best Story award was surprising.

Just my 2 cents. :)

BF3 is so over-hyped and over-appreciated by the industry.

I would beg to differ. I bought battlefield 3 and played it for a bit. Not really my game in every aspect but i bought it for another reason. Someone was actually making something that would push a dead PC-market. Im not saying the market was dead as to say ppl where not buying games, but that the only games comming out to PC where console ports that had the system req's of a computer built 2009 (and looked accordingly).
We need developers like Dice to avoid ending up like the music industry:
Pushing out crappy artist that all sound the same (not going to go into the quality or musicality of these artists). :toast:

I wish J. K. Simmons was at least nominated, poor Cave Johnson always has to make do with the 2nd place.

While BF3 is beautiful indeed, - as an oldschool fps player -, I sadly have to agree on this one:(
It's not as bad as COD ofc, but it's still all about graphics and 90% of the players I know are saying the same.
On the other hand, you have to understand the devs and the publisher here, because it's not only a game but also a product. You simply can't sell a good fps game today where the players would need 6-7 years to hit the skill ceiling.
Kids nowadays can't take boiling lava, if you know what i mean;)

somebody really likes LittleBigPlanet 2 lol

6 god damn nominations

Well, it had a good story after all, but I understand what you mean, and I agree. There were other games with better story indeed.

no Witcher 2, Saint's Row: The Third, Gears of War 3, Dead Space 2?

really? 3 of those games have a metascore higher than Battlefield 3.

None of those games have a decent multiplayer. Single player is a flash in the pan UNLESS its an epic original story like Portal 2. Hell it doesn't even have to be epic. Just very well told. As a single player game NOTHING holds a candle to Portal 2. As for multiplayer well.....BF3 destroyed all of them. Most people have at the very least of 100 hours in BF3.

i'm glad everybody except you agrees with me haha

read the BAFTA comments. everybody is taking a crap on them. not even Crysis 2 got a nomination.. the one game that always seems to get a nomination and no one knows why.

Apparently BAFTA agrees with me too. ;)

Console players hated BF3 because it takes skill and looked like shit on thier dated hardware. True story.

good for them. don't be a jerk

I'm sorry but the British have restored my hope in their culture. I've had my doubts since they canceled Monty Python.

Yyyyeeeeessssss not a single award to Skyrim!

If there was a category for "Longest and most boring diatribe by dudes in black robes", Skyrim would have won it due to the Greybeard quests.

IMO, Skyrim is overall an outstanding game. It's just that if you break it into its component parts nothing really stands out as truly exceptional. Although Bethesda's attention to detail in the game's ecosystem is pretty amazing.
