While NVIDIA is currently in (figurative) hot water with developers and gamers for an utter lack of WHQL Vista drivers for the G80, they are working on something for the rest of the industry. Mac OS X has for a long time been disadvantaged with a lack of Direct3D games. NVIDIA recently announced that they will work with Trans Gaming to develop very fast (and very supportive)Direct3D emulators for Mac OS X. NVIDIA's CgFX API engine, as well as their shader libraries of known developers, will compliment Trans Gaming's Cider very nicely. This means that as NVIDIA and Trans Gaming really get something out in the public, they will allow Mac users to play modern games.

LoL, games on a mac.......... Direct X emulator..... The best graphics card that Mac uses right now is a GeForce 7300 w/256 MB ram.... No wonder my PC smokes my school's Mac Pro's in every program I've tried. Apple just needs to bite the bullet and scrap their OS. They are a good Music Device company, and a good Case Designing company.... but that's it.

i know im just saying that theyre doing what WINE did. Its nothing new to EMU Direct, plus if it works really well, better than cedega, then that would kick ass. If the source were open to everyone then that would be even better. It would just be cool to have a gaming platform other than Windows.

Ummm, you can order a MacPro with an X1900XT 512MB. And there is absolutely no reason for them to scrap their os, it's a good os.

You are kidding right?

Whats the point of having an X1900 if u got no games?? Not to mention it works a lot better on Windows.

They do have games, just not as many. And games aren't the only applications a gfx card improves the performance of. Lest we not forget that Bootcamp allows you to run Windows on a Mac as well, therefore making that X1900 useful for games anyway.

I can see how this will satisfy the Macophiles but let's face it, no one's going to go out and buy a Mac as a gamer. AFAIK no SLI/Crossfire support, sure it will run Windows, but at what performance hit. If i was going to drop down the $$ for a Mac Pro, Id much rather build a monster C2Q on a nForce 680i with a pair of 8800s in it.

seeing as how MS has a stake in Mac ( i believe it is still true) I dont think they will complain too much.

There'd be no performance hit in Windows compared to a PC with the same components. The new Macs run Windows natively with Bootcamp. It's not a vm program, it actually boots into Windows. But, admittedly, there are more component choices with a PC, so you would have the option of running a dual card setup for games, given the right component choices. This is still great news to those of us that need a Mac for some of our tasks.
