VelociRaptors were outdated when they first launched. And it looks that hasn't changed. All WD could muster in two years was a ⅔ increase in capacity and a small bump in performance. Seriously? It really isn't anything else but a slow HDD. Those that are interested in high-performance storage for their PC and are in their senses buys SSDs instead, or hybrid drives* at the very least.

Surprised WD doesn't see this.

Not a huge Seagate fan (love my Blacks), but I've been curious about the hybrids... Anyone got a good, reliable review/comparison? The 'Egg has the 750s for $150 right now, and I'm tempted to break out the emergency card to edge my system up a bit. My Skyrim install expanded beyond my 12Gb RamDisk, and I had to go back to the HD. Would be nice to grease that up a bit...

SSD's are nice, but still rather expensive for the Space. I have been using Raptors for years and I think they do fine. I may give one a shot sometime.

Too Expensive ? If $120.00 for 120Gb with 500 MB read/write is to expensive then gaming on computers is wrong for you. This $120.00 with be the best investment for your computer. I really dont think ppl understand how much faster everything is, When I work on others computers ... I get so mad , everything is slow .. loading programs, restarts.

The time the SSD will save you alone is worth the $120.00.

I will say this .. windows 7 is a Must for SSD .. I have used them with XP and Vista .. that will make you rage.

RAID won't help you with access times (it can actually make them worse) which these drives are good for. Sequential speed isn't important for the OS drive.

I understand how much faster they are. Really, I do. 120GB is not alot of space for me. I need at LEAST 450GB for all my games & other things (I have alot) My raptors still have not gotten to the point where I think, Wow, This is so slow, I need to spend alot of money on something with alot less space but faster. Not going to happen. Raptors load plenty fast for me. It's just the new fad. Not everyone needs it. My 600GB Raptor was $209.00. A 600GB SSD is Over $1,000. (Comparing Space to Space price) I know the SSD is alot faster.

I got my vertex 120's for $90 each after MIR.

A little over 5 seconds to boot windows. My games and media run off my 6TB array. Coming from multiple RAID setups, the speed increase of SSD's are enormous, and well worth the price, and the marginal setup it takes to tweak them with other HDD's to achieve the performance/storage I needed.



I will spend the money on SSD's on performance builds now every time.

With TRIM they don't slow over time, and if they do, run maintenance.

Just get a 5400 rpm 3TB drive and pair it with an SSD cache drive. You will get better performance for about the same price. After the caching kicks in.

Most people who complain about the capacity of SSDs are missing the point. You use them for your OS and critical apps, and maybe a few games.
Regular hdds are fast enough for storing everything else, and are relatively inexpensive.

Paying this much money for a regular platter hdd is plain retarded.

Umm , you are saying that because you live in Europeans or E. Asians your prices are almost double .. then the V.Raptor would be $600.00 and the SSD would 240 ...

Whats your point .. the SSD is still A better deal even if all your prices are doubled.
