Hi,

I've recently done a new build including a new monitor and I've noticed some horizontal black lines moving around on the screen.

They aren't that noticeable but are very annoying, I have the latest drivers and was wondering if it could be because I'm using a VGA->DVI adaptor with 1920x1080 res?

I've also noticed that when playing games on full settings (i.e. COD4) the gpu gets to 60-70C but when I alt+tab out to check the temps using AMD VISION and SpeedFan they both drop to 40-52C almost instantly, could this be a dodgy sensor as there is no way it could jump so much in such a short amount of time...?

Thanks

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I get a weird BSOD every now and then, this has happened twice in about a week or so that I've done the build. There will be a blue screen with vertical black lines across the length of the display with no text whatsoever.

EDIT2: I've just noticed that the weird blue screen seems to be happening when watching Youtube videos, upon flash player about to be loaded, the one just now even had the sound still playing for a few seconds then the screen went completely black and a few seconds later the sound stopped and the system had crashed. I've tried uninstalling Flash Player using their uninstaller but it doesn't want to uninstall even though it says that it has, it's still installed in FF/Chrome....

Hi

welcombe to TPU

To help the community assit you with your issue; please could you fill in your system specs and OS in UserCP next time you log in

"I have the latest drivers" Catalyst 12.4 have issues with some vga cards; try uninstalling catalyst 12.4 and install Catalyst 11.9

"I've also noticed that when playing games on full settings (i.e. COD4) the gpu gets to 60-70C but when I alt+tab out to check the temps using AMD VISION and SpeedFan they both drop to 40-52C almost instantly, could this be a dodgy sensor as there is no way it could jump so much in such a short amount of time...?" This is normal as the driver switches between 3D and 2D clocks [AMD power saving Ulps]

"I also forgot to mention that I get a weird BSOD every now and then, this has happened twice in about a week or so that I've done the build. There will be a blue screen with vertical black lines across the length of the display with no text whatsoever" This is also being reported on the www as an issue - you may have heat issues, set the vga cards fan speed to manual in catalyst control center and set to 100%

"I've just noticed that the weird blue screen seems to be happening when watching Youtube videos, upon flash player about to be loaded, the one just now even had the sound still playing for a few seconds then the screen went completely black and a few seconds later the sound stopped and the system had crashed. Try this, open Internet Options/Advanced/Accelerated graphics and enable [Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering*]

Hi Law

I've filled them out as best as I can atm. Posting this from my phone.

Will try the older CCC tomorrow. Surely the gpu rendering thing would only apply to IE?

I don't think the weird BSOD is related to heat as everything is sitting around 35c or less when it occurs.

Cheers

Agree, Fire Fox may differ and or have it's own settings to adjust

agreed; it may be drivers, cannot rule out a defective card

Will you be able to test the card in another system?
