Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced its new lineup of high-performance SSDs designed for use in personal computers. The new series supporting SATA 6.0 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) interface comes in two tracks; one for general computing purposes and another, an advanced lineup dubbed 'PRO' for serious users.

Samsung's tiered offering for professional and general user environments provides consumers a broader choice of SSDs to best suit their personal requirements.

The unrivaled performance of Samsung's SSDs lies in its MDX controller, which delivers superior performance, high reliability and sustainability that are among the product's proprietary features. The premium class 840 PRO provides 100,000 input/ output per second (IOPS) for random read and 90,000 IOPS for random write. Benchmark test on the overall system performance unveiled a three-fold advancement when applying the 840 PRO in place of a conventional hard disk drive.

Mr. UnSoo Kim, vice president of Memory brand product marketing team, Samsung Electronics, said, "Introduction of Samsung's 840 SSD series delivers considerable levels of advancements to the notebook user environment. As a technology pioneer, Samsung continues to raise the level of performance of SSDs and contribute to the growing global pool of users enjoying the conveniences of high-performance SSDs."

The new 840 series will be available globally from mid October through retail channels.

Excellent news.cheers.

I knew they were coming yesterday, when I saw that the 250Gig Samsung SDD has fallen to the 160 euro pricepoint! Was a about to order 1 or 2, but really no need to... :pimp:

Then you can give the money to me so I can order one. :laugh:

It is not the money i don't need, it's another SSD! haaahahaha Nice try :toast:

My 830 is not even 3 months old LOL.

We will see how this 840 performs, Im pretty sure it wont disappoint. I guess I know what my next SSD (512gb) will be :cool:

Anandtech reviewed 840 Pro and it's lookin' good.

This drive would look like an interesting choice as I'm overhauling my system within few months schedule, including my historical Vertex 60GB. Will be keeping an eye on pricing of these buggers.

I am so glad I have waited to get an SSD. Prices are coming down (even though some are reporting they may creep up a little bit) and new controllers and tech make them wicked fast. I Think I may have me an early Christmas present :D

Sweet news they just took the super awesome 830 and made it even better!

I'm still waiting for SSD's to get a little bit more reliable and cheaper, but these Sammy's are making it hard to wait.

WarEagleAU,
You're glad now, that you waited but when you finally get your SSD you'll regret not buying one already 2-3 years ago.

Here's how I rate my hardware upgrades by improvement on user experience.
1. 2D -> 3D accelerated graphics
.
.
.
2. HDD -> SSD
.
3. single core CPU -> dual core CPU

I agree with largon

My Samsung 830 still priced above the price I paid even 3 months later, and Im pretty sure it will retain some value if I decide to sell it in 3 months or something. If anything, I can always use it on my netbook :)

I'm loving the way that review looks of the 840 Pro, may have to start saving to upgrade my 830s. According to Anand, it's a beast drive that tops most of those review charts, and that just makes me :)

I am excited I am in the market for 2 SSD's atm so I will be keeping my eyes on these!

If they are releasing the 250GB/256GB versions for a decent price, count this in as my new htpc to play some steam games on my sweet hdtv :D

What's nice with the 830, at least the 2XX gb one is the crazy endurance it has, as shown by someone at XS

Absolutely you should put a pair of these in your build, it would be so amazing. I want these too. :D
