Strange problem- Connecting two monitors Radeon HD 5800

Hi everyone.

So my primary monitor is an old 19" LG connected by a DVI cable to my computer. I'm currently running Win7 64-bit. I'd like to use my new TV as a monitor as well, so I bought an HDMI cable to connect my computer to it. The card has an HDMI out port and the TV has three HDMI in ports. The card is designed, theoretically, to support up to six monitors at once.

However, when I plug the TV in and go to Display Options, the TV isn't detected. When I click the button marked "detect", not only does it still not see my TV, but my monitor goes dead as well. The computer hasn't crashed- I still hear noise- but no picture, and nothing short of a reboot can bring it back. Additionally, if I boot with the TV plugged in, as soon as Windows loads my monitor dies (although I can see the boot process fine on it).

I've checked Google- no one else is having this problem, and I can't figure it out myself. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you sure the HDMI cable is good? Do you have another monitor/TV you can test it on?

I know this happened to my dad. He was using a 15ft HDMI cable so he could connect his laptop to his TV. It somehow broke and he didn't know until he tried to connect it to my brother-in-laws TV once and it would never see the TV. When he tried it back at his house it didn't work either.

Also only the Eyefinity version of the 5800 cards support 6 screens. They also only have 6 mini display port outputs as well. Your version only supports 3 screens.

I checked their KB and nothing they have posted quite matches what's going on.

Card is an ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series. Drivers are up to date, version 9.2.0.0. I know there are several Radeon HD 58XX cards- mine just says "5800 Series" in DxDiag.

TV is a Panasonic Viera 32-inch LED tv.

I'm pretty sure the cable is good, when I first connected the TV my computer could detect it and give me information, but as soon as I tried messing with the settings to get picture on it my first monitor died and then I couldn't see anything. After that first time, simply making my computer detect the TV is enough to kill my monitor and stop me doing anything else.

Thanks very much!

Hi

I checked their KB and nothing they have posted quite matches what's going on.
How did you do this when we do not know which of the HD 5800 Series vga cards you have installed?

Card is an ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series. Drivers are up to date, version 9.2.0.0. I know there are several Radeon HD 58XX cards- mine just says "5800 Series" in DxDiag.
Not enough info

Go to windows Search Programs and Files [type; System Information] select Components / Display - Look for Adapter Type (Example AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x689C))

Next; select the eversion number from the link below
http://developer.amd.com/resources/hardware-drivers/ati-catalyst-pc-vendor-id-1002-li/

nb: which AMD Catalyst Driver are you using [example: 12.10]

TV is a Panasonic Viera 32-inch LED tv
Model number still required [example; X5, E5, DT30, E3 series:]

Could you also let the TPU community know the LG 19'' Monitors Model number and it's maximum/optimol resolution

when I first connected the TV my computer could detect it and give me information, but as soon as I tried messing with the settings to get picture on it my first monitor died and then I couldn't see anything. After that first time, simply making my computer detect the TV is enough to kill my monitor and stop me doing anything else

You may need to reinstall your vga drivers; to correct this issue as the registry entries may have changed when you where making adjustments. Follow this guide by erocker - http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52502

Do you have more than one monitor hooked up not count the tv of course, if so that's your problem. Display ports are the only way to get past this limit

You can connect 2 displays over the 3 ports of either DVI or HDMI. If you use 3 displays you have to use Display Port.

The only time this has happened to me it was either the cable or it wasnt quite plugged into the pc fully due to the case obstruing it.
