Hello guys, after an ordinary watercooling loop maintenance, I accidentally spilt some liquid onto my motherboard. It's non conductive and everything was unplugged except the pumps, and I tried to clean it off. Now, after a whole day of work, the pc won't even turn on. The psu and motherboard leds are all turned on but, no matter what, I can't get it to work. I tried to jumpstart the psu and it works just fine, powering up the fans (even those attached to the motherboard), the hdd and the pumps.
my pc specs are as follows:
asus rampage iv extreme
Asus nvidia gtx 580 watercooled
I7 3930k watercooled @4,2ghz
G.skill 16 gb 1866 mhz
Coolermaster real power m1000

Wc loop consists of:
Vga block, cpu block, 2x240 rads, 2 koolance pmp 450s pumps.

What I tried:
Clear cmos, unplugging every peripheral, reseat ram modules.
plz guys help me :((((

Sounds like the mobo passed.

Where did water spill? It could have gotten under something and not fully dried out causing a short.

When my looped leaked on to the gpu(during leak testing) I pulled the cards and let them set for a day. Then used a hairdryer to make sure it was completely dry before trying to boot up again.

Edit; I've had experiences where I tightened the cpu block on too tight causing it not to boot. I lightly unscrewed the block by 4 or 5 turns and now its great.

It went on the ram modules, I tried to dry it as best as I could but I wasn't as patient as you were :(. There is absolutely no smell of burning stuff though, maybe if I let it dry for good it will work, or am I being too optimistic ?

Board is RIP. Nothing you can do unfortunately. One question, why were you impatient. A hairdryer would have done the trick.

Did you over-tighten the cpu block? I edited my first post and said this was a problem I saw before.

I tried untightening the block, it didn't work. Is it really fried then, really no hope? As I said before, there's no burning smell at all and the liquid is non conductive and it was spilt directly from the bottle:(. Thank you very much for all the replies guys, I appreciate that

I wouldn't give up hope just yet, undo everything, lay the motherboard out in the sun for a few hours with no shade, try to rub everything down with a damp cloth, and put it back together from step one...

Lot of work, but it may save you $200+ on a new mobo. If it doesn't work then yeah I guess a new mobo it is, I saw EVGA had a x79 LGA 2011 on sale yesterday on Newegg for $149.99 I think it was a lightning sale for one day only, sorry :(

There is no liquid 100% non conductive. If it has the slightest of metals in it, it could still short a board out

Guys, I have some updates: I uninstalled the mobo, I inspected it thoroughly and found no visible sign or smell of short circuits or burns (I dismounted the coolers too), and I dried it for like 3 hours using a small electric heater. Now the pc turns on, but still, it doesn't give me any video and there's a small red led, in the q led section by the 24 pin, and there's written CPU_LED... What now guys, I'm so tired of this :(

Try resetting your BIOS, it might be trying to still run an overclock if you were running 4.5Ghz prior to performing any work on your rig. It's best to rule everything possible out and running stock is a good place to start. Your rig sounds unstable, not dead. My P9X79 Deluxe will light up the CPU_LED if my overclock is too unstable to post.

when I dried it up, I removed the cmos battery, so I think it's reset... Or do you mean another way?
EDIT: AH btw, I double checked the socket for bent pins, there was no sign of damage or whatsoever

some boards will not completely reset the bios by removing the battery. There should be a bios reset pins on the motherboard. Take a look at your user manual as it will show the location of the pins.

How does the computer behave when it does boot? Is it stable? Are you certain that it's not the switch on the chassis? I've heard of that happening before. I would hate for you to replace your PSU if it were something simple like that.

Ok, after leaving my pc unplugged all the night with the CMOS battery unplugged, it booted. The system doesn't feel super stable though, my screen flashes and the aero theme goes back and forth, I'm scared to reboot now ahahahah. I guess I'll try and play a game to see if it can go through it.
