Given that Radeon R9 290X trades blows with the $1000 GeForce GTX TITAN at just 55 percent its price, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, which NVIDIA teased just ahead of AMD's launch, had to be one of two things - cheaper than the GTX 780, or faster than the GTX TITAN, or end up a futile maneuver for NVIDIA. It turns out the chip will be the latter. Leaked 3DMark 11 scores posted on XtremeSystem claim that the GTX 780 Ti will be at least 5 percent faster than the GTX TITAN in the test, and so NVIDIA is aiming to make the chip a faster alternative to the GTX TITAN. What remains to be seen is if displaces the $1000 GTX TITAN, or the $650 GTX 780 from the product stack.

Not surprising. It probably has less shaders than a Titan too. If you can ship a 780 that's faster than a Titan then you can do even better with 2496 and a speed bump. Idk why they never let their partners go nuts with custom Titan designs from the get go.

There is still the part where AMD could release drivers to surpass the GTX 780 Ti, like the "Never Settle" bundle did before.

Chances are even non-reference 290X with a good cooler might do ;)
Some of the non-reference GTX 780 already beats the Titan.

Perhaps prepared for another boost/Ti version if AMD release something to beat 780Ti. Nvidia doesn't seem struggling to beat AMD in performance ever since GeForce 6xx, but also doesn't seem fast enough to counter AMD generation per generation release in the same timeline, so they just release boost/Ti version here and there to counter AMD speedy release.

Also I don't think they need ultra-super-uber halo product GPU that will give AMD severe blow in performance as long as they're still performance king to help selling lower end (and profitable) GPU.

See what Intel did from few years ago, leaving AMD behind too much. Now CPU progress is rather stagnant, CPU from years ago are still doing well, and finally less sales for everyone.

Why 290X only uses a 3770k?

It's because they don't want to compare apples to apples, ie. give them equal footing to properly test the cards. So that makes the numbers completely unreliable. Here is to hoping that someone properly tests these cards when the 780ti comes out.

Its a fake.. Unless 3DMark 11 verifies 780 Tis like a 780

Most likely its a 780 OC score that didn't get registered. The only searchable result is the Titans.

Also if you download the pictures and align them Titan and the black out you will notice the Titan text is longer and if you go look at the 3DMark 11 results (660 Ti & 780). The 780 Ti picture lines up with a 780 text there is no room for Ti.

Think he just blacked it out to give the impression he had one when it was just a OC 780.

*That's not to say the real 780 Ti wont perform like that but I'm not convince this is real.

Agree entirely. Bunch of pics with no clear source info.

Though it also won't be hard for a 780ti to beat a 290x if it has the relevant cores, clocks and TDP limits in bios. But that wont concern AMD as i wouldnt be surprised to see Nvidia price higher than 780 and drop price of that card instead.

Fwiw, a 780ti with same cores as Titan, clocks at 1100mhz, 3gb memory, increased TDP limits and limited DP would be quite simple to do. In a few AMD-centric titles 290x would still have an edge.

"Fell the wrath of mighty Titans you unworthy peasant!"
So what's next...nVidia will launch GTX 780Ti,GTX 790 dual GTX 780 and GTX TitanX dual Titan for encounter such a hot, noisy and power hungry card? /pun.

Why 290X only uses a 3770k?

And?I even use FX8350 for dual 7970.It's still not enough?

3770K for R9 290X & 3930K for the Titan & 780?

Does 3DMark11 take advantage of all CPU cores during benching or is that strictly a GPU benchmark?

Its funny how nvidia only releases what they need to if they wanted to they could crush AMD.

It's certainly a nice luxury to be able to leave performance on the table, we still haven't seen what a fully fledged Kepler chip can do yet.

Full gk110 will probably have just 100 mhz of advantage over Titan seeing as it takes 200 mhz of difference to even out performance between Titan and 780.

2304 cores at 1200 mhz show the same performance (more or less) than a 2688 part clocked at 1000 mhz so by comparison the 2880 part should be in the region of 100 mhz of advantage only needing 900 mhz to match the clocks I made up above :)

Still I don't think it's the way nvidia will take, they can just increase clocks and tdp instead of sacrificing precious 2880 parts which sell for way more than consumer parts.

2496 cores at 1150/1200 mhz is my wild guess ;)

From what i saw its not GK180 15SMX, but same GK110 with 14SMX like Titan.

The only difference compared to Titan is, it has no DP (same like 780GTX) and faster gpu/ram clock; gpu base 950mhz+, ram 7Ghz (336gb/s).

Because obviously, businesses are about "crushing" and such. Not about making money...

*facepalm*

I don't see why this is surprising, there were already aftermarket 780s that were faster than Titan.

Some great custom 780's going for £399.99-£430 Inc VAT over @ Scan.co.uk

Includes Batman Arkham Origin, Splinter Cell Blacklist & Assassins Creed Blackflag too. :toast:

does the titan have great overclocking potential? and if it has like 3XX more shaders, then it much be a scheduler problem similar to AMD's issue with the HD 5870 has, where the HD 5850 was dam near as fast.

Overclocking potential? KingPin got 1800 on the core over LN2.

I also saw a rumor that Nvidea is preparing the ULTRA TITAN fully unlocked GK110 GPU with 2880 CUDA Cores as using the Quadro K6000

So can be posible what the GTX780 can be more poweful what the TITAN core:wtf:

Rumors Titan ULTRA

:D

Nice catch... but look at the Physics score (CPU). Notice how it is actually HIGHER than the others? That has to be overclocked to get it that way. That said, it isn't holding anything back.

Look at the GPU scores. ;)

The Physics test, which is all CPU, factors into the final score. See above, look at the GPU scores.

Titan can barely stand itself stock... he had to use a separate power delivery board to make that happen.

Titan overclocks reasonably but throttles at about 1150mhz. Requires water or good cooler (acx from evga) for best result. Requires custom bios to remove power throttling. My card is about 10-15% faster than stock in games at 1136mhz @1.2v. Running under water and modified bios.

^^

I can vouch for that, been running 1400 Mhz titans for months with eye blowing candy on 1600p

Skyrim with 2k textures and 8x aa plus ENB cripples it down to 50 fps lol
