Lian Li is feeling experimental again. After taking the PC enthusiast community's opinion on the PC-A51 prototype late last year, the company undertook another such exercise, this time with an emerging form-factor, desk-type chassis, chassis that doubles up as your desk. The DK-01 prototype by Lian Li Measures 800 mm x 795 mm x 600 mm (WxHxD), the business end of the case is its top drawer, which houses your hardware, and metal u-frames that make up its legs. A clear glass or acrylic top gives you a bird's eye view of your creation from above.

The DK01 features room for a gargantuan HPTX motherboard, which means it can also hold EATX, XL-ATX, and standard ATX motherboards. The case has room for up to fourteen (14) 3.5-inch drives, which are arranged in detachable bays. Removing half the bays creates room for large motherboards, and long (up to 410 mm) add-on cards. With the caddies in place, that room shrinks to a still respectable 280 mm. The case supports PSUs as long as 280 mm, and CPU coolers as tall as 180 mm. At various locations, there is room for up to seven 120 mm fans, which you can use to deploy a 240 x 120 mm and 360 x 120 mm radiators.

This looks pretty cool but with Lian Li you know that much metal is going to cost you.

What's a desk? People still use those?

But seriously, this edges closer to my dream mod that I've never had the ambition to do.

Take a coffee/end table (perhaps even a room-central type with rising hinged top that goes from ~12-36inches, like I use currently) with a storage section underneath and stuff a open-air test bed in there, attach some usb and perhaps display/power extensions, drill some holes for the inputs/outputs (if not simply expose the backplate towards a wall), perhaps attach a couple low-noise fans/cages/filters on each side, and voila. Hiding a few cables for the tv/audio would be a small price to pay for the chassis space and clean look of the room. That would be pretty sweet imho.

But a set-height desk? Nah...although I do appreciate where they're going with the idea.

....a little late to the game aren't they. While the other desks are quite large...they look Enthusiast or Big Boy Toy.....this looks Preschool... all you need is matching red & black chair and a juice box.

Its meant to look old school/ retro thats the point would fit right into a arcade.

neat idea but i'm not completely sold on the space distribution and those red standings, we'll see.

arcade? Didn't realize they still made those. Where i'm at, the last arcade closed about 7+ years ago. But i guess they're still out there. ..Could make a lot of sense in the school system though.

It's nice, I'm not knocking it it, but enthusiasts like the people at http://www.redharbinger.com/ do it better.

At the very least, it gives consumers a choice and at the end of the day, having a choice is what really matters.

Hopefully, they'll make it more customize-able.

Such a diplomatic way to slip that desk porn in there.

While again, I don't swing that way, I must admit what beautiful desk porn that indeed is...if you dig the gaudy type.

Not saying there are, They are probably all closed down haha but a lot of people out there make there own up who wouldn't want there own arcade in there house.

The price of that would be sky high, Ever heard of mainstream? thats what Lian Li was going for also who ever said it was for enthusiasts if i had kids guess what they would be doing there home work on.

make it wider, it looks like school table

I see a problem immediately. You won't be able to slide your legs under it when you are sitting down. The case is too thick.

The red legs look hideous and the desk surface is too small.

Yes, I'm aware of the concept of mainstream. No one said it was for enthusiasts (not even myself). If you decide to procreate, do your future kids a favor and teach them the value of a proper education.

I hereby dub this the "Evil Genius PC desk". And it will cost ONE MEELEEON DOLLARS!

how about taking off the legs and just making it a normal case

You could put other equipment on top. It doesn't have to be the desk you sit at.

Castors would make it a lot better.

If I was going to make a computer desk I would use one of those risers that allows the gpu to sit on its side like the steambox. I would watercool and have the radiator/s sitting flat, with fans of course. It would be wider and thinner and not look so childlike.

It looks like a desk for elementary school students.

lian li build quality is good but their taste is rather cheap.
